Group or Fan Page-Which is Best and Why?

I have read alot on the forums and it seems like most people would rather have a Fan Page instead of a group
because of the ability to message your fans.

I currently dont have a website for the fan page I want to create but want to get started right away, how long until FB catches on?

Any strong opinions on whats best Group or Fan Page?

It depends what you want with it. Pages are much better but you can't make a page "kanye West is an idiot" ( you can but soon or later FB will block your posting abilities ans it's gonna be worthless) but if you make a page that will promote some site, product etc. page is great promotion channel.
