Another webmaster forum I am a member of has a group buy section. It's really handy for expensive scripts, databases etc that we want but don't want to pay full price to acquire. I was just able to split the cost of a $2000 database 5 ways which was freaking great.
The way it works is:
One person starts a thread with the product name he wants to buy and the number of people he would like to share the price with.
Any interested parties reply to the thread.
Once the number of "participants" has been reached, the thread starter will accept money from the interested parties. If the targeted number of participants is not reached, those interested can decide if they sill want to proceed.
The thread starter purchases the product and shares it with the other group members who contributed money.
Obviously you want to make sure you trust the thread starter but by using itrader (which we don't have on the other forum) I think we can be sure about who we're dealing with.
