Got scammed off 180 USD from this guy winleyworks.1542101

This guy has scammed $180 off me:

I was trying to buy AWS account from him. He showed he could successfully launch an 96 core instance on his computer screen. He also showed me his account with $5000 credit. I later agreed that I firstly paid 50%, then he delivered the account. However, when the account is delivered, it is another account with no credit. that account also do not have the right limit, so it could not open an 96 core instance. Basically that account only worth $27 and he is trying to sell me $350. He basically thought I am not experienced in AWS at all and trying to scam me.

I then requested refund, he agreed. But he said he already exchanged the dogecoins into fiat INR. He also don't realized I'm relatively expert in crypto. From the chain data, I realized he is lying, he didn't exchange dogecoin into INR at all. All the dogecoin is still in his wallet. He basically keeps coming up of reasons not to refund me. Very sneaky guy! Don't buy anything from him!

Lesson from me:
Never buy anything from relatively new member no matter how legit he sounds.

@ajsdij1201sd , I'm on mobile so a little hard to get links but you can shitlist the seller and a moderator will mediate your case. I couldn't access the link but is the seller an upgraded member?

@ajsdij1201sd , Sorry to hear that you were scammed. I saw you just joined 2 days ago. Sometimes, we all have goofed up in something or the other in life. And it has nothing to do with common sense (as 2 other members mentioned). Perhaps you were not too alert or aware. However, now onwards, you are much more alert and aware. By the way, you are welcome to BHW. For AWS accounts, please see BHW's marketplace, there are sellers there and you can buy, if needed. Wish you all the best in all your endeavours.

If on BHW then only deal with upgraded members to stay on the rules.

Paypal remains a good option since it offers a certain degree of safety.

Just to clarify, it is not against the rules for a member without a sales thread to sell on the forum, it is, however, against the rules for a non-upgraded member to offer paid services, but as long as the member has Jr. VIP membership they can sell and earn money on the forum by getting hired directly or by applying to HAF/WTB threads.

It relates more to investments where the returns are not certain, returns could be 0% or 1000% as per past performance, so at time of investing there may be a temptation to invest more than you can afford to invest.
But, when you buy a typical product or service, such as buying a cup of coffee, the deliverable is the cup of coffee and nothing more, so there will be no temptation to think Oh, instead of US dollars 5, I will pay US dollars 500, so that this cup of coffee will 100x into 100 cups of coffee, so my US dollars 5 would become valued US dollars 500,
Do not risk more than you can afford to lose, is particular to each product or service and the scam that may or may not happen later has nothing to do with the investment risk statement, but rather it has to do with the product or service that one is paying for.

Agreed. In the case of product and services, especially from places with unknown history and reputation, then wouldn't be taking a risk? There is no guarantee that anyone you pay for products and services will deliver to your satisfaction. And even moreso, if the product and service comes with a non-refundable transaction to it. Then even more risk. So in that case you should only be willing to spend what you can afford to lose or even not care if it turns out to be a sham. I was thinking about the wengthemeng case and in his video he even brought up a point about ppl who pay via crypto. The buyers who paid with crypto should know full well that there is no refund or no way to trace and get your money back should something wrong happen. So they accept the risk by paying with crypto.
