A writer approached me last year for a quote. I told her that I would give it to her but I wanted a link to my store in the article. The article wasn't for Huffington Post. It was for a major media outlet. She told me up front that she would put the link in, but whether or not it stayed was out of her control. The link didn't stay. I didn't pay her anything, nor did she ask. Just wanted to let you know that the link does not always stay. With that said, reputable writers of reputable publications shouldn't be asking for money in exchange for links.

No writer can guarantee that the link will stay in. The editors have the last say and do pull links if they choose to. With that said, bribe writing is not allowed and the writer should be reported to the media outlet.

Sadly, there are a lot of fake author accounts. Fake companies and fake CEOs. It is very elaborate. They are all run by certain groups. Kind of like the SEO Illuminati. They are easy to spot. Often writing about random topics and dropping ridiculous links. Big business...

Most of those guys are writers, contributors. almost anyone can do this. They have no real control over the site.
They scam left and right, I did not fall for that crap. I have had really good links like that. Not much effect, No follow and they never last once a real mod comes along.
