Got scammed as well. Shoulda known better.

At Dp for about 4 days now, Ive been selling $73 adwords vouchers (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=719444) and yeah I gotta say now that I realized what happened: I was a dumbass.
Ive also been selling activated adwords accounts and vccs beside the vouchers, haveing to talk to and support like 10 buyers a day and in the meantime, I didnt notice the profile of a guy at DP who requested 3 vouchers from me, who I just found out has 0 posts and 0 Itrader and joined the same day that he sent me a PM to ask to buy vouchers and requested to pay by paypal. I mean, damn, it should have been so completely obvious I was dealing with a scammer, but I was doing so much at the same time that I just wasnt paying attention. I mean, just like murphys laws, I think he was the only guy whos profile I didnt check up on. I remember analyzing all the other buyers' profiles, but It was just this guys who I didnt look at. I was getting questions and requests from many buyers everyday, so I really actually couldnt keep track, and being the fool I was, right after I saw he sent the payment, I sent him his vouchers promptly, to make sure He would be satisfied with my service.
So I log into my email account today and what do I see? "PayPal Investigation of the Received Unauthorized Claim: Case ID #PP-429-310-144" - the guy payed from a hijacked account. I got scammed for $60, which isnt really all that much, but after this, I think Im actually in a loss of profits of selling vouchers. All that selling for nothing now that the fucker scammed me.

So heres what I wanna ask: What can I do? Is there anything other then obviously learn to be more careful? Paypal will not cover the fraud transaction unless I provide a shipping address which I obviously cant provide them with, and Im almost sure the rat that scammed me double made sure to take quick action and use up the vouchers I gave him as soon as he could.

Anyway, Im definately gonna be alot more careful after this. Getting scammed sucks no matter the amount. I remember I got scammed for $30 before on DP and $4 as well, and it ruined my day all the same. Oh well... sigh...

That sucks man. There's really nothing much you can do, scammers are always going to be around. Even if you find a profile with good history, posts, and iTrader, there's still the chance some dickhead will file a chargeback after he gets his stuff. The best thing you can do is to keep checking out people's profiles, and require that they have a verified paypal account. That last part is the toughest, as a lot of people don't have a verified account. Have you tried eGold or moneybookers?

Yeah, I actually allow the buyers to purchase useing MB or egold and even prefer those types of non-chargebackable payments, but I thought Id also allow paypal since so many people like to pay that way. Its at these types of times when you realize why alot of ppl only accept egold or MB: useing those types of payments dont have the headaches paypal payments have. Any, I learned my lesson.

Post the paypal info at badmembers.com and let people know about it like this in all the forums you can.

Also, get a pp account in someone elses name, wife's maiden name, brother, sister, and use that as the pay to account, as soon as payment is made you can transfer it to your account. Purchase a sevice from yourself. Keep the pay in to account empty.

Nothing you can do. I have been selling an eBook on DP and have had Paypal take my money back 4 different times ($27 each). I HATE Paypal.

I provided all the information about how I emailed the eBook to the person, but every time, my money was taken away from me.

WhiteAl - sorry to hear that, especially since I was one of the guys asking questions. You've been quite helpful on the forum. I'll likely be buying some vcc's and/or vouchers in the near future - hopefully that will put you back in the black. -e-

AHH Man sorry to hear that dude! Just some advise for the future, be careful when accepting payments from paypal, as they can take back the money any time if its still in your actual paypal account so your best bet is to hit the request money button asap so the money can get into your your bank account.

Best to not use Pay Pal at all, stick with google checkout, they are fair more supreme. Also there is egold and alertpay. But I would stay with Google Checkout, switched to them and have had no hassells.

why not report to google a fraudulent account and have them disabled on him

Paypal will also debit your bank account if there is no money in your Paypal account.

I've had a neg bal on one of my paypal accounts for months now ($75) and there hasn't been a debit

Regretfully, your loss is our lesson. But, money thankfully is something that can be replaced, life is irreplaceable.... Whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger, adjust and keep on.

I just had someone use one of my cc and I'm still trying to figure that one out. I haven't used the cc in years.

You might try to get them with greed. I mean PM their account at DP and act like nothing happened. Tell them that you have ran into some hard times and need to get rid off some vouchers quickly. If they bite then you need make them do many things like visit a link. You can take control of a computer with one click and an iframe exploit . Or you could just try to get more info through cookies that you plant in a post on DP. First though is you have to see if you can get some communication going with them if you want to nail them!

I'm involved with incentivised marketing (free ipods and such) and I keep a dedicated Excel sheet of all of my transactions with each freebie network, referral and offer network. I keep a list of each referrals paypal email, their sign up email and all PMs. It's truly the only recourse I have if something goes awry.

Whenever you are involved with selling anything that is not through either your own website or through something like ClickBank, keeping a spreadsheet with as much info as you can may save you from future hassles.
