I wasn't selling anything, just trying to get people interested in my company. Anyone have any experience with this? Is my account pretty much banned? The emails obviously were not double optins, lol.

    Just curious.

It looks like you learned the first lesson of spamming. Never send emails from your primary hosting account. Always send from throw-away hosting accounts as very few hosting providers tolerate spam.

On HostGator? I think whoever you were chatting with didn't understand what you were describing. That contradicts their SPAM policy.

You specifically asked them if you can harvest emails from the web and send commercial emails to that list and they said no problem? Hell that violates ICANN (Federal Law) even. I find it hard to believe they understood what you asked and said no problem.

I think it was VPS. Also OP are you mad? Why would you run Mails from Hostgator? If they get more complaints then you are banned. Try to find other sources for mailing man.

How ironic, I was googling that exact same message you received (cause I did the same thing) and what do ya know, first post was this post lol.

Learning is half the battle my friends.

Where did you get your email list from? If it is a purchased email list then probably users marked it as 'spam', which triggered spam filters.

Also, have you followed the basic SPAM-ACT guides, which include:
    1.Unsubscribe Link
    2.Company's physical address

Just apologise, say it was a client that you've now suspended and don't do any further mailings from your HG account.

Exactly did just this in the reply ticket from them and they said they would consider it resolved as long as I didn't do it after today.

    Thanks!

Dude if you want to send mass mails ( aka spam ) you can't just buy USA hosting and do it.
You need a offshore hosting, in Russia, China, Hong Kong, Ukraine or Iran, but even there people will not let you spam with just a shared hosting, you will have to buy yourself a VPS or even dedicated server.
For example i know a guy ( he is representing one hosting firm actually ) who is selling dedicated server in Turkey for 220$ per month and you can send as much emails you want, they will ignore all spam complains for you.

I got the same earlier but for comment-spam (some butthurt site owner had complained directly to them). I just said it wasn't me and somebody else posted it as an attempt to negative-seo me, and got away with it.
