What i did once with a spare 100$ i had? I subscribed at teamtreehouse [dot] com and learned ruby on rails easily and fast. From that i developped really simple and customized web apps for local industries. My biggest contract was 5000$ for a vacuum cleaner home-repair dispatch service. My code was based on some open source framework and so was the core engine that managed it.

That's a pretty good ROI, and if you're looking for good ways to invest your 100$, that sure as hell is a good one, and you find jobs in no time if you go local.
