Got Copyright Issue mail

Hey,
I have some old site that just scrape content from news site in my country and i totally forgot about it.
I just got long mail with pictures from some lawyer telling me im voilating copyrights because I use their images in the site.
They asked me to remove it and pay like 15k or they will sue me.

Point is I totally forgot about the site and it worked with some plugin and I'm a bit paniced about it.
I removed the domain/hosting now but about the money what do you think?
Is that for real or just to frighten me?

call their bluff, if you removed the site from the net then i doubt if they'll sue.

i forgot to add make sure you keep copies of all emails etc, if they use aggressive and threatening language then that is valuable to you

Your have to be nice and tell the solicitor
You have removed the video/images and content and sorry.

Becouse you never had any written legal content telling people that if anythink is seen on your website and they wish for it to be tacken down if they own the content

You might get fined no matter what ,as you was using copyright content


Get legal advise if i was you....

yeh of course redarrow is giving good advice, but i seriously doubt if they will pursue a legal claim against you as you have taken down the site.
You should always have legal pages on your sites though.
if in doubt do go and get legal advice, however it can be costly.
I would just send them a polite email explaining you didn't realize it was in breach of copyright and you have taken down the site and all the content
Then see what they say

If he is following with more emails, then ask him more details about him. Then look him up on google. Every lawyer should have some informations on google. If he doesn't do it then it's a bluff and you should not care about it.
But most probably that's some spammer that wants to get rich in a day.

Not bluff, he is from some office I checked their site and he also used their mail.
What I am afraid is that he actually putted time in the mail, SSed my site and everything.
Hope it was just to frighten me though.

Just keep all correspondance, he's just bullying you - i doubt any court would look at it
