Got a great EMD... now what?

Hey everyone. So I own a pretty good EMD I think. It consists of two words 'X' and 'Y'. It gets 27,000 global monthly searches and the competition is "low".

The #1 ranked site for this keyword has the same domain as mine but with an i in front of it. (iXY.com)

How hard do you think it will be to rank for this keyword? Also, the reason this keyword gets a lot of searches may or may not be people searching for the iXY site?



I really want to build a site with this but am unsure on what niche to enter. The keyword seems as if it would make a good photosharing/funnypic site? How well do these sites monetize and would this be the best route to take?



Sorry for all the noobish questions. I just really want to do something with this domain rather than let it sit...

If you are talking about adwords competition you do NOT want low competition, you want high competition. Especially if you are using adsense. Now if you are are talking about SERP competition for a 27,000 global monthly search term either you are the luckiest man in the world or your keyword just isn't going to be profitable.

Judging by what you've said, a photo related niche I could see being very difficult to become profitable and SEO traffic might not be your best bet.

EMDs don't carry the same added ranking boost that they used to. It won't hurt you to use one, but it's not going to put you at any substantial advantage.
 
Are we talking 27,000 exact match?

I'm using Google adwords keyword tool. I checked [ ]broad to get those results.


I have a bad feeling that your next post is going to be bad news telling me that my domain isn't as good as I think. LOL either way, the domain is very unique and easy to remember and can be used for something big....

Not really. Its sort of like the domain facebook. Two separate words put together that can be used for almost anything. Back before facebook blew up, the domain didn't make much sense... Kinda like mine..
 
Since the google updates, EMDs got hit pretty bad. Also, what you're talking about isn't really an EMD. For example, an EMD is if I want to enter the photography filters niche, it would be www*photofilters*com or www*filtersforphotography*com or something like that. Its got to have some kind of relevancy to your main keywords. EMD means your URL contains your main keywords ( which is why its called exact match domain).

Pretty soon you'll be ranking for all sorts of keywords. Once you get that out of the way you can really focus on making money. BUILD A STRONG FOUNDATION!

So just pay a couple of guys to write some articles for you and then you rank for all sorts of keywords? Have you ever ranked for any even semi-competitive keywords before? If it were that easy, people wouldn't be selling articles for $5, since they could rank their own website in no time.

You use "Exact" when doing keyword research. Don't pay attention to broad.

Broad means there's that many searches per month containing that keyword. So if your keyword was "tits", the broad number of searches would include every search containing the word "tits"- big tits, small tits, how to make tits bigger, etc.

Exact would show just the amount of people searching for just the word "tits" and nothing else.

I just knew he made the 'broad' / 'exact' mistake, I swear a guy makes that mistake at least once a week on these forums.
 
2 letters but what exstension? .com .net .info??

Yeah unfortunately you're correct, you could have 100,000 on a broad match, and something like 10,000 on an exact match. The discrepancy isn't usually that big in my experience, but it's definitely a possibility. When targeting a keyword you want to use exact (some people use phrase match for various reasons), but regardless in the scheme of things you aren't going to get any boost from that EMD anyway. If the name is brandable, it's brandable no reason not to run with it. If anything that could be preferably over a keyword rich domain depending on your intentions.

It sounds like you are referring to the garbage articles bought from fiverr for $5, the guys here that write articles write top notch content. And I agree with you because you need more than 2 articles to rank, hence the "keyword silos" I mentioned :)
