Got a $500 offer for domain; should I wait?

Forgot to add... Imagine stumbling across at least 1 or 2 people a month just like that. It is pretty much an easy, non-time consuming, venue of extra income.

Dedicate a few hours researching the fastest growing markets at the moment, take some more time to come up with nice catchy names (study our pop culture history) and put them out there. Worth a try, in my opinion.

BTW, I am in no way an expert AT ALL. This is my first domain sold and I don't know the first thing about this kind of business, I just sold a domain I had lying around - no science behind it really. Just trying to find the explanation behind it all.

Congrats on your sale, but it's really not "easy" to have random business owners stumble on your listing. Domaining isnt easy.

If you manage to repeat this 5-10 times, then you might be onto a winner, but for now I'm still putting it slightly down to luck more than anything else.

Either way - well done on the sale and I hope you can repeat it many times over!

This is why I'm always hesitant about entering the world of domaining right here.

This Tread brings up something maybe sone of ytou can shead enlighten me!
Recently being interested in securing domains that could at a later date make a little money with. So i joined GDaddy s auction site, I won the bid on an expiring domain I thought Gdaddy had the legal right to sell, they sold it I bought it, they deducted funds form my account. the sent emails confirming all the above,,Then they wanted to refund my payment and told me the domian owner renewed the domain..During the Auction, someone got interested in the name also, one other person, They drove the price up and then stopped. I asked Gdaddy about he sale and was told this is normal... I feel it is unethical even if they claim it is legal.. But they did tell me I could offer a domain for sale with them unless I owned it or had legal right to sell it..I would like some feedback, I am not trying to hijack this tread,, now that I reread it maybe it seems this way..If so speak up we can delete it and I can list it another way,, Thanks for your input feedback

Domains under the Registrar Godaddy, when the expire and are not renewed within 30 days are placed in their auction. If someone by chance bids/wins the owner still has 10 days to renew the Domain or accept the transaction. This is a very short explanation, it's a bit more detailed but it's the jest.

Nice sale! It's always good to gather as much info about the person who's inquired about your domain as possible so you know why they want it.

Great job on your first sale. I think you could have negotiated more, however :)

you got real lucky. your domain was worth 5 bucks. most people in this business loss money!

I had an issue with a domain I wanted to buy through another domain seller. I paid the money and then a month later I was refunded the money due to the fact that the seller never responded to the sale. I then found the domain on Godaddy's auctions (for 1/2 the price btw) and then did a buy it now. After a week, I contacted Godaddy and told them what was going on and the CS rep said that the domain was registered through godaddy and that if the seller didn't transfer the domain, he was going to lose his right to sell domains through Godaddy. About a week later I received a notice from Godaddy saying the domain was transferred. I never did get the "real" story of what happened, but it's my understanding that Godaddy forced the transfer through since they seller agreed to the terms of the buy it now auction and the domain was registered through Godaddy.

My point is that I've always felt Godaddy was looking out for the buyers and I've always had great CS from them.

My guess as to what happened to the other poster is that the original register paid the fee to keep the domain from dropping. If the seller put the domain up for sale, then you can make a stink, but if the domain was put up for auction based on the fact that it was expiring, the register has the right to renew.

Can you please let me know the website where you have listed your domain for sale. I also want to sell my website graphicdesigninspiration.net What do you think how much it worth ?

Did you ever end up selling the Domain. Can you give us all an update? Thanks

Might want to read through the thread instead of just reading the 1st post :)

LukeaB - Don't count a sale until it's closed/money is collected. Mark indicated at the same time, granted several sequential posts, that they agreed on $800. "NOW, I already accepted the offer (we agreed on $800)." No later post like "Hey the Domain sold, I collected the money..."

I can't count how many times I've reached an agreement to sale and sometimes to buy a Domain, only to have it fall through prior to closing/money transaction.

It was a valid inquiry.

Want to argue it wasn't?

The WHOIS data is the same set of data from 9/1/2012 as it is TODAY. Let me take this a bit further, it's the EXACT same WHOIS data (listed Registrant) dating back to when the Domain was first registered 1/15/2012.

Therefore it's safe to assume the transaction fell through. I wish it hadn't for Marks sake but I was interested in hearing the details on what happened.
