Your not buying a wife, the guy and girl have to both have feelings for each other. Its just customary to give the bride's parents money.
Well chances are that you will have at least some amount of money. As you can see the numbers aren't insane and as people said it's a tradition. It's not like they are really selling it to the highest bidder. If the parents/girl don't like the guy 99% they won't agree no matter what amount, although there is at least 1% who are actually selling off their daughters.And what if I have the Love,but not the money?

About the multiple questions whether you can go if there if you aren't a gipsy the answer is yes, but chances are that almost no family will agree to such a wedding, unless you are really attractive and have $$.
What I mean is that if you are 45, there is no chance in hell that you will buy a 18(or less in some cases)years old bride![]()
