About a month ago I got a site ranked #2 in a keyword that Google's keyword tool said got 9,000 national searches per month and 2500 local searches a month. But according to analytics, I've only had 5 clicks for that keyword during the same amount of time. The math just doesn't add up here.

Is this keyword tool accurate and if not, is there some other tool out there to figure out keyword searches or how to rate keywords?

the keywords tool is not accurate for sure, otherwise everybody would be targetting the best keywords... there can be big discrepancy of what it says and what is actually...

You're right. The exact match pulled up a far lower number.

It can be far off. Specially with competitive keywords that get a lot of searching according to Google.

Lesson learnt my friend, broad match is like taking a stab in the dark.

Always look for the exact match, you know once your at the top get ready for that traffic rolling in.

And maybe you only thought you were ranked #2. Did you turn off personal search results?

the keyword tool is a ball park estimate at best. its a good place to start but dont bank on it.
