From what I understand, Google now pays a lot more attention to the quality of the site, and less attention to backlinks (even penalties if the backlinks are from bad neighborhoods or webspam).

So does this mean that we now try to ONLY produce original content? Or will high-quality (high PR related sites) links still play a big role?

If you don't mind, do you have a reference source as to where you heard about this?

I believe quality links are always going to play a big role. On my sites I try to build quality links to the main site and build lower quality links to 2.0 pages, articles, etc.. then pyramid those.

I am posting mostly high quality original articles. A guy that works for me at one of my companies is actually a writer on the side and he does some great work, it ends up costing me a tad more than what I could get articles for but his are always great and have personality with them. I have used PLR packages on a few sites but I always let him spin them manually.

how can you NOT have heard about this?

It is a legitimate question so let him ask it. Without a source, how can he back up his theory. I agree, Google do look at Authority, but from what I have seen this isn't really a major SEO issue that will dramitically change people's SEO strategies.

Haven't heard anything about "de-valuing" back links.
