Google's guide on 'Optimizing your website for generative AI'

Google have finally posted their docs on apparent best practices to optimising your sites for all their AI offerings. Just like their other 'SEO guides' it's very general, sanitised, and makes enough denials in the 'Mythbusting' section to make you think they're attempting the distraction technique: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/ai-optimization-guide

My response - just keep doing SEO like you were doing before. GEO/AEO/etc is a direct outcome of doing good SEO.

I feel like Google is mostly rebranding good SEO into new AI-related terms now. GEO/AEO/AI optimization discussions sound new, but a lot of it still comes back to the same fundamentals people have been talking about for years. Clear structure, authority, relevance, trust, and useful content.

In my opinion, the bigger change is not “how to rank,” but how traffic and visibility may get distributed through AI summaries and assistants going forward.
