I've been trying out Google Cloud Compute for the past three months with some free credits I got.
Not impressed at all.
They spend three years shouting "we stick to MOORES LAW FOR PRICING" and then make hosting almost impossible using GCC, database crashes, overloaded instances for wordpress, almost imposible to set up load balancing, encouraging you to use Firebase for anything that you don't use for internal ops, which is priced at a fixed monthly fee or pay as you go and doesn't follow moores law. Technically it may be good (I don't know) but marketing for years saying you are going to do one thing and then do everything you can to get people to do something else is unethical marketing in my opinion and I don't plan on using them again.

Anyone got something good to say about Google Cloud?

I have been using their services for a very long time, I think it is much better than Amazon

I have used gcp for a moderately big project before. Never faced any problem, other than the pita way of logging into putty for the first time. The db in my case was mysql (on the same server). Are you sure you are doing everything correctly?

The db crashing that you are referring to is a common problem in many low end hosts, and it can be fixed without having to restart the server every now and then. I don't remember what I did to solve the issue (that was a different project/server) but you can google the issue. As for load balancing, it can be tricky. I won't comment anything on that without knowing about the actual setup.

I've used it a lot and never had any problems, except for the fact that all their IPs are blocked in China, and I really needed the Chinese to be able to access the project

The first time I started hosting I got the load balancer up no problem but needed to sort out the SSL in wordpress which was fine. But for some reason on every new project I started I couldn't get the load balancer to work even when I deleted all projects and started again. It literally didn't make sense.

Nothing wrong with Google cloud, although they had some issues recently which are not acceptable for company like big G ;)
