I submitted one of my sites it was already ranked #58 and slowly moving up, Verified it submitted sitemap and everything. It fkd up everything and rank dropped to 650.

My other site I submitted it via the tools also has poor ranking abilities is this tool some sortve trap that keeps track if you have bad history with one site it bases future rankings on it??

Are you trying for google.com or and .co.uk etc.

If you doing whitehat seo, Webmaster tool will be very useful.

I think nimmivh said it right... If you are going for whitehat, google webmaster tools is a useful tool for you to keep track of things on your site. It obviously does have some limitation that can be compensated by using other tools that measure keywords, on pages issues, and other factors.

Sounds more like google dance than a penalty keep creating backlinks and you should be fine.
I am using webmaster tools for all my sites (all with white hat SEO) and never had any issues other than the google dance but they usually get the 1-2 position they deserve :p

Well i also use Webmaster tool and it provide really useful information to me.For good ranking i think you need to put some extra efforts like article submission, press release ,forum commenting etc.

Shouldn't this be the same for blackhat as well? Those sites still need sitemaps submitted and what not.

The difference between having webmaster tools and not is the ability to see what google sees, if you don't have it then you don't get a warning before a slap, if you do use it then you can see what's what

People on here seem to think not having webmaster tools will stop google seeing what their up to and all I can say is LOL and LOL

If your really paranoid then have a google account purely for that site and nothing else
