Google uses user behavior for ranking

I mentioned this many times in the past few years.

Google always said they didn't, but they do use clicks and shit to rank.

Their anti-SEO people are supposed to lie to keep you in the dark. Everything they tell you is a lie.

I can personally attest to this. During Covid lockdown, we were the only e-commerce store with a particular hot product in stock and magically jumped to #1. This was with improper “in stock” schema so that never showed on the serp. Dropped to #2 since the end of it.

This explains why the May update broke everything.

The user behavior changed drastically during the pandemic.

So Google was spying on everyone for ranking signals, like which shops you walked into, then suddenly all those signals died out and were sent from homes instead. Their search broken down completely then.

Beside clicks, there is 'search intent' by the user as well

Yep. I've tested it myself.

There are lots of other things they didn't mention.

Like phone books and stuff. Google copies your phone book when you back up and they check that for 'links' between users.

They probably have something like pagerank for people.

Someone who shows up on may powerful people's phone books probably has higher rank.

Really interesting, I've read about this several times in the past.

It'll be interesting to know at what point do they start to use user behavior for ranking. is it when a site is in the first 10 results(that is page 1) or immediately they start getting search impression.

An answer in this will go a lone way in helping is know how to game the system.

There already were several.

A few years back I boosted a site ranking by just improving its CTR on SERPs using a service from here. It stopped working for some reason, I think the seller's proxies got uncovered bc he sold too many. If done in private with residential proxies probably still works.

This is interesting. I remember that in 2010 when we created a website and once it appeared in google we simply took few PCs and googled it and kept clicking on it over and over again. Website was slowly climbing to the top. I guess ranks improved also. I must say that there was really low competition.

Yepp I am sure I have seen bst thread for this before. I thought it was taken off because the idea did not work. Now that we have some clue that it can work, I am sure someone can make an undetectable bot of some kind. Obviously, selenium bots without proper precautions won't cut it. Google is smarter than that. I am in middle of another interesting project, so I don't have time for that experiment lol. Someone else could use this idea I am sure. May be @jamie3000 or Deleted member 923340 ? It would be interesting to see if this works.

In theory, user signals is a much better indicator of website quality compared to backlinks. Not sure why these big SEOs are so surprised by this news.

It takes a lot of time to do something like that but I'm pretty sure it's being done.

Multiple users, multiple browsers, proxies, feeding google all the BS they want to rank for customers who click ads.

Sites that generate more ad clicks go at the top of SERPs.

I've thought this for a while too, this is what I think happens when rankings increase/decrease daily. It's Google split testing results and monitoring user interaction.

I think Bounce rate is one of the user signals used to rank the keywords in some cases.
