Google updates in August or site penalised?

Hi folks,

Site traffic dropped to about 25% overnight. August 3rd. No idea why.

I wasnt spamming links or anything like that. No dodgy methods.

How do i see if Google penalised me? Its a forum with over 100k pages.

Could it be the fact that people post links to ul.to and other filesharing sites?

What do i do now? Thanks in advance

I don't see any significant different in traffic in my sites so I don't think there is an update. Are you still getting visitors from Google? If not then you might be penalized. You said that people post link to filesharing sites, if those links points to illiegal download, then it's is also possible that Google got DMCA complains and removed your pages from search result.
 
Go to G00gle and type in:

site:yoursitename.com

Or whatever domain end you have.
Then check if there are any ommited results due to DMCA.
 
I had heard the Google went down for a very short time sometime recently, maybe that was the cause. I noticed a slight drop on my sites also but they came right back up and everything is good.
 
Webmaster tools will tell you about DMCA requests and manual actions...go take a look.
 
I noticed 50% traffic drop starting from August 14. I have two large website with more than 100K unique pages like you, but they are not forums.

What's interesting is that in Google Webmaster Tools number of indexed pages continued to grow and almost all pages are indexed, none are deindexed, but number of queries started to fall from August 14. No manual spam actions, no messages...

I don't have any conclusions, I hope it's because of lower summer traffic, but deep down I know that's not the case, maybe algorithmic change for sites with large number of pages.
 
You may fill out Penalized form and submit to google team if you are sure that there were no spam activities of links or legit contents. If you are working closely with webmaster tool, then you may be sure what you are doing!!!
 
Google has penalized several of my sites, just in this month. Already I seemed strange, not I can assure you if it's an update, but it seems to me that they are supervising more closely.

My keywords drop from yesterday , I do nothing . I think google update
 
Google been doing alot of things the last 3 weeks i posted about it for ranking videos but its the same for websites.
Some keywords you search for random stuff will be covered in videos and others will not have anything but a few simple websites.
 
A mate of mine had a site drop in traffic severely around 6th of August, haven't seen many complaints in August though, no major updates have been announced either.
 
Gotta wait til they fix Google. It's been broken since Penguin, Panda and other animal updates.
 
Rankings are dynamic entities friend. If you got penalized you would have lost a whole lot more traffic than just that. Some of your links may have been devalued. Another property or properties may have overtaken your SERP placement for your main keywords, thus your traffic would suffer and they would gain. Doesn't mean you were penalized, just means this is where you rank now.
 
I saw 4/12 websites take a 50% hit this month. While irritating; I'll keep doing what I'm doing: Building links. They'll get their traffic and rankings back.
 
sure they will get their rankings back. no doubt on that. but google is not done rolling out updates these weeks.
 
I actually noticed the same on one of my test sites; it was on the 3rd August too. The only backlinks to this site were from a purchased expired domain, one high PR directory and a couple of blog comments on semi-spammed pages with low OBL. My traffic was increasing consistently after these actions for a whole month and suddently on the 3rd, I was out. I built this site on a web 2.0 and some 2 months ago. It has quality content that gets shared a lot btw.

I believe there was a "big" update in August, if not on the 3rd, it was in the last 10 days. It is quite likely a tweaking of the Penguin 2.0 as there have been no announcements from Google in August. The take home message? Be careful with your backlinks (as if it wasn't obvious).
 
I am still seeing some keywords with nothing but videos on some things lol either there is alot of us hitting youtube this last week or there change is still in effect
 
My websites droped since 20 july till now I lost arround 50% of my trafic and i still don't know how this shit happened and how to recover...i'm not doing bh stuff or something could anyone explain the reason of this trafic drop now that 1 month have past?
