Google Update - Is this the one?

i think there are weird things here, some Rankings are increasing, saw around increase in traffic yesterday and today it is lower than usual and sometimes upside down,
Rankings are still up though, just hope this is good updates

BREAKING NEWS

Nothing happened.
@bartosimpsonio
I often like your posts and replies ... So much that I could've become a fanboy :p
I don't want to offense you but fact is, in my POV something really happened.
Let me explain :
I've got several sites built on the same scheme : Some have been raising (while they had no traffic) others (having great traffic) have been decrasing ...
I'm speaking of a 200/300% up traffic for "unpopular domains" and almost 50% decrease for "trending" domains ...
Isn'it weird in your pov ? (Or isn't it a sign of fluctuations ?)
2020 is just astonishing for me ...
I've many arguments to developp my pov, and if you're willing, we could have a further discusssion via mp ... If not , just not :)
Have a nice day !

Sup mate. It's no offense at all. Why would it be.

Anyway there might be different effects in different sites due to many reasons. Maybe your sites got boosted specifically for some reason.

Thing is watching a bunch of different sites across the board (several different niches) you get a pretty good signal that an update's happening. That's how I know something's up when pokemon and truck websites change at the same time, I know it's not just specific to a site.

Right now something's up, but I think it's the indexing bug thing. Traffic has been kinda crazy lately.

Yeah, I think it's indexing related. Some of my posts have been disappearing for days at a time and then reappearing. They reappear immediately if I manually request indexing again.

Dam I think I got it ...over these few days from friday till yesterday , not good the traffic
the adsense earnings also drop compare to last week before yet another update

Reason I don't consider this a traditional update is it seems to be a bug fix.

Anyway you could argue a bug fix is an update.

Having said that, Google still has not fixed whatever this is. IMO still same problem since May 2019 update.

I thought this "update" that happened over the weekend or past few days has been more of a visual and placement change UNLESS I've finally been moved into another split test group to see how I interact with ads and widgets.

I think it's still a bug myself and another site are ranking on page 1 for some search terms which are traditionally recipe-based. It's only doing it for 2 "keywords" and in my opinion, I have no business being there - although I'm not looking to get shifted off there any time soon ;)

That happened around May and I've sat there ever since.

May last year I believe

Really hard to find anything specific, like technical terms.

Only big brands seem to carry authority. They really fucked this up because you gotta struggle to find anything that isn't a big brand.

Since this weekend for me the "Search Related to XYZ" at the footer has gone back to how it used to look it used to be in a tablet/button looking shape and the layout looks alright. Also, the way the cards for short snippet and shopping have moved to be at the top of the page again rather than the right so the way "search looks" I figure there is some split testing on there and id not be surprised if that is impacting results for some people as well.

Yeah as of May last year I'm coming up in listings I don't think I should be despite the page is optimised for them when the results traditionally say recipes or infographic pages I don't think a product page would have a chance but since last year I've been sat there in-between all these other posts and I stick out like a soar thumb. I can't work out why OR what is causing it I figured there was a glitch with google that's caused it so every "update" that comes along that's my first point of call to go check that page to see if:

- any new competitors are listed there
- if I been removed

In terms of brand that's all my focus has been for the past 6 years (as of yesterday) is growing the brand and now the mentions and reach I'm getting is why I think I can compete with companies with marketing budgets larger than my turnover! Could be wrong tho.

Almost all my website gain +60-100%+ yesterday. There is something for sure!

It was the Core Web Vitals update.

Gambling niche (Russia), the main keyword KD 50 with around 10000 traffic
Doorways there is just a website with 'BRANDNAME-123213-131313.RU' - something like this.

The first page is untouched.
Besides, the articles that I have posted on 22nd of September on my sites are still not indexed :)

Update on my sites, B2B and retail niche, it def seems like the indexing bug (to me). GSC will show multiple pages indexed but my other tools show me a 3rd to half of those pages are indexed. Strange because some of these pages are years old with minor edits (just haven't had the time to work on them).

I think it is the index bug instead of the core web vitals because I have been working on those fixes and core web vitals improving in field data daily but the rankings are not recovering.

That being said, there has been some straight up weirdness all around. Some sites dropped 2000% in rankings and regained in 3 days. Stressful time for SEO. Makes the quarterly meetings interesting...

Edit - spelling error.

The way they show the results does have big impact on CTR. So these design changes do impact.

But about raw ranking what is generally meant by big brands isn't related to brand at all, but big $$$ ad spenders.
