I redesigned my pages that were ranking and did on page changes according to the pages that were ranking on the keyword that page was targeting.
Got my rankings back in few keywords but not on all of them.

I’m going through the same issue, I got my rankings back only for a couple of keywords. Still figuring it out.

Get rid of toxic links you detect with Semrush. Then find keywords with average search volume and low competition level and write content accordingly. If you use artificial intelligence, change your words. Your articles may be original, but you should also check artificial intelligence. And let the AI rate be below 15%.

What was the content type on the website? Do you capture emails of the visitors? You need to adapt and look for other ways to bring stable traffic on the website.

it is not only about content, images also are crucial and are one of the reasons for google penalty,
Does your target niche has big internet giants ranking, i.e facebook, twitter, reddit, tiktok (if yes then move on to some other niche or language)
Where are your images taken from, do your competition uses real high quality images?
Does your target niche has top 3 positions avg DA +60 (If yes then think of ways of increasing DA, or switch niche, start new site)

One of my best earning sites has tanked big time since HCU in September. After re-writing content on the site and hoping for the best, there's been very little improvement in the UK, but suprisingly a large improvement in the US serps.
I started a new website in the exact same niche (brand new domain) on the 12th February and it's already ranking well above my old site. It has 1 backlink on it just now and already bringing in sales through Amazon.
The plan now is to copy my competitors strategy and have several sites in the same niche to act as a buffer for situations such as this.

Hi Bhikku,
Has your ranking returned to a previous level or decent level after rewriting the articles? Is it enough to just rewrite the article?
What if I want to establish authoritative links? Where to get authoritative links? This is exactly what I lack?

Nope - not recovered from it yet. It is a mistake to assume that Google will immediately allow the better content to rank again. Expect it to take 3-6 months for everything to recover!
As soon as you have completely rewritten the content - buy sensible backlinks such as guest posts. OR buy PBNs or try a monthly PBN service, e.g. the one from tiiberius. After a few weeks, you should be able to check whether google is happy with the content or whether it is a zig-zag ranking situation, i.e. although you have bought PBNs, the rankings jump up and down => a sign that google is not happy with the content.
On the subject of guest posts:
- unfortunately there are a lot of services here with a lot of promises, in the end most link services are pretty worthless and many sellers don't even know what a real guest post is - for some it's actually a link on medium, no kidding. That's why I can't give a recommendation here at the moment. But I would definitely avoid all the Lady Gagas and Sherlocks.
The best thing to do is to simply write to 50 sites in your niche and ask openly and directly for a guest post. Some will ask for money, others won't.
However, if someone is obviously offering guest posts on their homepage and even has guidelines and writing rules, then you should ignore that site. It sounds easy to get a guest post on such a site and here's the problem: simple links are pretty worthless

Is it a naturally get link?
What is your backlink strategy? Only naturally links?
Affiliate sites are getting stomped by Google, what type is your website?
What topics does the site cover? What types of articles does it publish?

If your traffic went down to absolute zero, there's really not much you can do.
You have to start from scratch.
It also depends on how you got penalized.
If you got penalized for content and maybe this has something to do with AI because people have been very sloppy with AI content.
You need to roll up your sleeves and start editing the most trafficked blog posts first, then work your way back to the rest of your content inventory.
If you got penalized because of links pay attention to your complete backlink footprint.
Are there spam ‘neighborhoods’ that may have infected you?
Disavow those.
See if that fixes the problem.
If you've disavowed all the dubious and suspicious links and you're still getting zero traffic from Google, it's time to start fresh.
Regardless, the best thing you can do right now is to learn from this experience.
One of the most important lessons people should walk away from when it comes to any kind of penalty, whether algorithmic or manual is that the customer must always be first.
Google is not your customer.
Your own self-interest is not your customer.
Your customer is the person who's using the keywords you're targeting to look for information on the internet.

Traffic didn't go down to absolute zero, I still get around 7-25 daily clicks from Google (down from around 70 clicks a day). I didn't receive a manual penalty, so it must be an algorithmic penalty. I really try to make my website customer-focused. I do use AI content, but I rewrite it so it won't sound like gibberish.
I just find it a bit weird that because of some links I bought almost 2 years ago, I got an algorithmic penalty. Also, I see a lot of '-k' backlinks, not sure what that's all about

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you; haven't been well lately and sporadically been on BHW.
I did outreach for the link on a site I have used in the past that had good results from it.
My site is a mix of information articles, how to content and also buyers guides and reviews.

What is the percentage of information articles in total articles?
Are there any other types of information articles besides how to articles?

The site I've got the link from has monthly traffic of 32k and the DR is 71.
The info articles make up 50% of the site and also includes news on upcoming products in the niche.
As I've always said, the content needs to be top quality, and in my opinion, it is. I think the problem with the original site which was flying extremely well is that there were too many affiliate pages on it
