If your sites get hit in the early stages of big updates it can actually spell good news IME.
If your sites get hit in the early stages of big updates it can actually spell good news IME.
Are those websites under the same or single GSC & GA account?
Absolutely correct. I remember the stressful Google dance days where we needed valium to get through the long days and nightsThere are a lot of folk on BHW that have been through LOTS of Google updates over the years, not just Google, but Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc etc and know how to deal with Google's frequentkick in the nutsupdates.
However, there are a lot of members starting out that are taking a hit for the first time. So I thought I would share some simple observations and advice based on what I am seeing from my own sites and what I have learnt over the last several years.
Impact to my money sites December 2nd / 3rd
Current Impact to my money sites December 8th
- 6 hit
- 8 not hit
What did I do to recover 4 sites?
- 2 hit
- 4 recovered
- 8 not hit
Absolutely nothing.
What do I expect to happen next?
The dance will continue. Some sites will be resilient and remain strong after their recovery. I might have 1 or 2 that do not and continue dancing until the next update.
What am I doing right now?
Conclusion
- Working on planned changes to all sites (new content, design tweaks, speed checks, hosting moves etc etc)
- Building new money sites
If you are new to this game, there is nothing to do right now but wait and see what happens. This is going to take a few weeks to play out and even longer to determine what has been targeted. As you can see from my own sites there is the possibility that your sites will simply bounce back. So the best thing you can do right now is concentrate on other projects until this all plays out, as worrying about it is not going to get you anywhere at the moment!
Basically, do not panic, do not be making any changes you were not planning on making prior to the update. Worse case scenario and your site remains hit, don't worry, Google will release another update in a month or so which has a good chance of bringing your site back to life. It happens all the time.
