Has anyone else noticed that posts from authoritative sources now rank higher than specialized pages with direct backlinks?

Lately, I've been observing a trend in search engine rankings where posts from recognized authorities seem to be prioritized over niche websites, even if those niche sites have strong backlinks directly on the page. Has anyone else noticed this shift?

It feels like the weight of backlinks alone has decreased, and more importance is being given to the overall authority of the website. Interestingly, I’m still ranking well, but many of my competitors have suddenly dropped off the radar. Is this the result of a recent algorithm change, or are other factors at play? What are your thoughts or experiences with this?

Yes, I’ve noticed the same thing. Before the update, my website had very low DA and PA due to having almost no backlinks, yet I consistently ranked between 5th and 8th for medium-difficulty keywords. However, after the update, my rankings disappeared, while competitors with stronger overall authority quickly moved up to the first page.

Google’s been shifting towards rewarding overall site authority over individual page strength for a while now.

Yes, many people have noticed this shift in rankings. Search engines like Google seem to prioritize content from authoritative websites more than niche sites with strong backlinks. This could be due to recent algorithm changes that focus more on overall domain authority rather than just the number of backlinks. It's possible that search engines are putting more trust in recognized sources for better quality and reliability. Even though you're still ranking well, others may be affected by this change.

What determines the authority of a site ? The answer is backlinks only.

You are right, the updates are favoring sites like reddit and quora. They are all over the search results.

It seems like Google is now giving more weight to the overall authority of a website rather than just backlinks, improve your content to keep your rankings strong.

Yes, it's common to see authoritative sources rank higher now, indicating a shift in focus from backlinks to overall domain authority. But backlinks are still important,

That is a good shift. Because it takes lot of efforts to build authority and it is not something easily obtainable with blackhat work .

Google shifted the focus on EEAT recently.

Backlinks are still Important .The quality and relevance of those backlinks may be more critical than volume.

I also see authority sites on top spots. It is making blogging very difficult for small bloggers like me.
