Google trying to make blackhat SEO a crime

You see, the Big Boys; Microsoft, Google, AOL and a few others want the 'net to themselves. They want to be the only ones to trade on the net and prevent the little guys from making any money.

AOL is in the process of leaving the ISP business to concentrate on internet marketing.

More and more states are trying to enact laws which try to control internet activities; Missouri is considering legislation which makes "internet harassment" a felony while providing only vague definitions of just what constitutes "internet harassment"! Targeting adults who "harass" under 17s online, the proposed legislation gives no indication of how one internet user is supposed to know the age of another internet user and pretty much leaves open the definition of "harassment" to whatever the local DA wants it to be!

I suspect that this is the time to make money on the net as it is going to get a lot harder in future!

My $.02.

You mean this is the same thing happening since they put my grandaddy's homemade ciggarette business out of business? Consider this a big push to try, there is a lot of money involved. Of course you could just buy google stock (snicker), but it will never really go away, it will just be harder.

Big guys sitting on and getting fatter, while small little fellow like me getting squeeze even harder....

Would this => 'Big or small, Equal Opportunity Online' be gone ? Or it has never been equal opportunity, just like offline world ?

There will always be niches, but I'm sure it will get harder. I wouldn't worry to much just evolve with the machine.

Big Oil may soon be Big Net.

If these pesky green inventions trying to make fossil fuels obsolete ever gain popularity Big Oil might have to park their dollars in Google, Yahoo and MSN.

Next thing you know those coming up with ways to beat the search engines will be given an "offer they cant refuse" or they turn up dead just like the ceramic engine block that needed virtually no oil to run.

Matt Cunts is talking up his wazoo again and I don't really feel like crawling up there today..yawn..

Really? Well I can name 100 companies that have made a career over fucking over thousands of people for millions of dollars, who have reputable, white hat, above board sites. Whats his point? Hes a prime example of who gave the gun to the baby? Dick head.

Surprised Google couldn't choose a better person with more of a personality.
Kind of reminds you of the person who was afraid to take risks, even though the punishment is unknown. Google is not and will not ever become a governing and policing force; though with some of the tactics they use against affiliate marketers, they are seemingly becoming an independent vigilante/rogue operation.

Most BH SEO tactics are evolutions of whatever they call 'ethical'; even though the terms 'ethics' and 'business' can not be used in the same sentence together. A black hat to me is someone who knows this business is dirty, knows they will have to get dirty to survive, and is not afraid to get dirty to make it in the biz.

Just my .02 pesos.

Nothing to worry about, Matts assumption that "cutting corners is a crime" is absurd. In fact Im not even sure why a thread was made for this. Amounts to nothimg but speculation of what was not even an official statement from Google or Matty Boy. By the way Matt is here in this forum maybe he could shed some light???

The way I see it. Black Hat is just a tactic to improve our online businessess. Nothing no different than offline bussiness do and prob. less offensive than some offline business are. It is just people using smart tactics to get better search engine rankings and the ones who get knocked off the top scream look at that so they wont be scrutanized and maintain their rankings and business stature. There is nothing illegal about it. Like counting cards in black jack, isn't that the ideal way to play in theory? But don't get caught.

I fucking hate google. Calling this "criminal" is insane.

The interesting thing is that when I was first slipping with my e-commerce, whitehat site, I got a call from traffic power and actually hired them. Long story short, they bumped my serps nicely but I got de-indexed from goog. In all fairness, after only a few emails of pleading, the reinstated me exactly where i was before the bump. AT the time there were hundreds of mom and pops like me who got hammered due to this.

Little did I know the worst was yet to come with the jagger slam.
Didn't mean to hijack...just a rant

They wanna control and govern the internet

Google will call this a crime, because it still is an act of "spamming" in one way or another.

It in a way makes sense however what pisses me off most about all this is their need of control. When they have this "control" they make more money to themselves. Kinda like casinos or cigarettes...alcohol. Government is a "legal" mafia. Cigarettes, alcohol etc were once illegal to be sold from the sheep. It is however legal for them to control and sell it though. They sure know how to tap into big dollar industries. Google im sure can get them on their side any time of day.
