Google to Encrypt ALL Keyword Searches

It does "grind my gears" but I've learned to just deal with whatever environment Google hands me. We're all on a level playing field.

It's really Google's playing field so I'm not so sure it's a level playing field!

Does it mean "keyword research will soon die"?????

No, you can always buy the research from Google.

All this change does is re-re-confirm and make explicit what was already clear about Google's one-way system. It takes your data (even if you don't want it to) but doesn't want to give good data back. It talks the rhetoric about improving the user experience, while simply carving a monopolistic spot for banking all by itself. At this point, its changes are hitting white hatters harder and more often than spammers, so exactly which users are benefiting?

I got out of adwords after google got so strict about landing pages and cpcs skyrocketed but it might indeed be a good time to get in again to find good terms. BUT, there are some things you can't measure that way and this is my point. I already talked about finding out which broader topics are juicy. You might be able to do somethin g similiar by bidding on broad or phrase match terms...but that wouldn't tell you how easy it would be to rank for them. Let's say i throw up a new site with 50 posts ..ah well, scratch that, you could combine the adwords data with a competition check. Things are just getting more uncomfortable and expensive.

I 100% agree with you pompano - the essential in SEO Work (but not only) you have to research a lot, read a lot and WORK double shift :)

It sucks, just gives you a lot more research and work.

I have stopped using Google Analytics from 2011. They can do whatever they want. From then on I keep myself less bothered about their updates. They can shove it up, who cares!

I have fallen flat on my face many years ago, things got mad unconformable for me before i was forced to do things i don't like. Collecting data, pouring over costs and figuring out ways to off set those costs, some listing i went for were too strong, some dried up on me, this is part of the learning process but the key thing is.. you don't have to keep paying for ppc if you can rank up on those terms, you can get it eventually for free. There is a few ways to offset the expensive cost of pcc for those terms you can't rank on but want to keep the ad in place. If the cost or the ranking is too strong but you have a offer/advertiser that can bank on the traffic source, there are ways to get a lower percentage of the traffic to your offer without having to mess with rankings or ppc with any search engine.

Things like ranking competition takes experience to judge how much time and money it will cost you to pursue sets of keywords. It is real easy to miscalculate the competition until you keep records of what you did to get previous listings. After awhile, you can start to identify listings based just on the domain names and if you keep good records you can look back at previous listings, see the same domain sets and get a idea of how much effort it is going to take to pursue those keyword phrases. If there is any specific you want to ask pm me anytime.

Reaaalllly now.

Google switches to placing emphasis on long tail keywords and you have complete access and control over any page you publish.

This is why blue widgets are better than red widgets. Red widgets are eyesores and offensive while blue widgets are calming and soothing.

You do not need analytics, you need to think of how a person would ask a question.

I'm not sure why people are talking about GA here. It's not about that at all.
It's a fuckin pain-in-the-ass is what this is but it's not the end of the world. Google are entitled to do whatever the fuck they want with their data and servers and network connections - It's a free market after all. The very same free market you're competing in.

Man the fuck up and realize that there's more than one way to skin a cat.

(actually I'm furious about it really)

I do think though that Google will reach a point where it simply cannot expand and dominate any further than it has. It will probably take some time but I've noticed signs for a while now that their market share will gradually slip, but that's another digression along with GA.

Basically I don't care. BH is not affected.
