When I search for my site in Google for my primary keyword, it would display my homepage. But lately when I do the same search, it displays one of my sub-pages instead. What would cause this? It still shows up in the same location in terms of rankings. Why would Google search show my sub-page instead of my home page? I haven't done any SEO on it for several months, so not sure what is going on.

Your sub page is a better page for that keyword. Happens all the time.

The sub-page that shows up does have a lot more content about that keyword. I guess that is why it is more relevant.

But does it mean anything? Should I be optimizing the home page more with content? Or will it affect my rankings in anyway? (It hasn't so far).

How can I make the homepage show up again instead of the sub-page?

you have answered your own question here. Make the home page more relvent.

Who really cares which page shows up as long as it is one of yours. Do you only have ads on the home page?
