I have a problem with the Google Suggest predictive searches for a client website. When I type the company name into Google I get three results appearing on the predictive search.

    a. companyname.com
    b. companyname review
    c. companyname scam

The company is not involved in any scam but has been written about by a disgruntled customer. I need to either remove the "scam" result or crowd it out to make it less obvious. Does anyone have any idea how to do this?

    Changing Google Suggest Results
According to Google "Suggest returns search queries based on other users' search activities". I am considering running automated queries for a number of additional related phrases in order to crowd out the bad result e.g.

    a. companyname careers
    b. companyname offers

This raises a number of issues:-

    1. Does using proxies make a difference?

    2. This company operates in multiple countries. Is there a regional component to Google Suggest meaning I would need proxies in different countries?

    3. Would I need a bot to fill out the query box and submit, or could I just visit the result page(e.g. http://www.google.co.uk/#q=companyname+offers&fp=1%29?

    4. When I look at the predictive search data it does not seem to be particularly fresh. There has been a young singer in the UK called "chloe higgenbottom" who shot to fame in the past couple of weeks. Her name is not on the predictive search. Does anyone know how old the predictive search data is?

    5. Would I need to chain queries together to make the activity more human looking? If I just performed one search on a proxy it does not look very real. Could this be viewed as suspicious?

    6. Visitors looking to sign up with this service are likely to click on the "companyname scam" result. Will this make that result even more popular making it stay around longer?

    Other Ideas
    7. Place a hyperlink that triggers a Google search on other websites (e.g. http://www.google.co.uk/#q=companyname+offers&fp=1) so that users from multiple locations will perform the search. Does this sound feasible?

I would appreciate any comments and ideas you may have.

    Thanks

You could try that, but even with all the proxies and everything else, I don't know if it will be that easy to influence Google's Suggest Results.

If it was as easy as just using proxies and automated software, then tons of people would be doing it.

With that said, I have never tried, so it may work.

Also, Google suggest is now localized, so you will see more results in there tailored to your location which is auto-detected by Google via your IP.

Google looks like it is moving more towards automatically using location auto-detect to bring up results. I have been seeing them testing a whole new look and feel for their search engine lately that automatically detects location as well as a few more changes.

    badpete,

Am experiencing the same problem for one of our clients and my colleague and I have looked at taking the same steps as you. We have a program that we have built and are testing but are unsure if this is the best route.

Have you found anything that works for you yet?

    Thanks

Has anything regarding the mechanisms of Google Suggest been leaked out anywhere? I can only imagine it comes from statistics from Google toolbars and such.

Just rank for the term with the companyname plus scam and you work on getting the whole first and second page with the term scam, ofcourse with getting up pages that are reviewing the company's name.

Put scam on your title but on the main page you get to put up good reviews on the same page.

I believe the best bet would be to create a website along the lines of "Is CompanyName scam?", and get it ranked #1. If there's just one disgruntled customer, it shouldn't be too hard.

I used the same strategy to one of my client, who is actually a middle man. Now most of my work is similar to this, rather than normal ranking. This works wonders.

Would love to hear more on this topic if someone has found a solution to influence the auto suggestions at Google.

First of all I do not thing you can change the google statistic but as said you can try.

What I can mentioned is that you should be very careful in constructing the url. keep an eye on the different encoding there are different url code depending on the language...
