Hi guys,

So I 301'd a domain to a new domain for branding purposes but the old domain is showing in the SERPs and still ranking while the new domain is indexed but obviously not ranking. Usually what happens is the new domain takes the place of the old domain in the SERPs but this does not seem to be happening.

The 301 is done correctly and I also 301'd it in Webmastertools.

This happened to anyone on here before?

Thanks

usually takes a few weeks, maybe even a bit more than a month buddy

Do you think I should wait it out? Usually it happens after a few days for me...

Cheers for the reply btw..

This is normal. Even after 4 months i still have old URL's indexed.

But has the new url taken the place of the old url in the SERPS?

Can you help a newbie out with the following?

1) When you say 301 is done correctly, what steps did you take?

2) Why don't you mark your old site as no index also?

Thanks.

Because I need the link juice! It's ok I can wait it out.

Step 1: Setup the 301 redirect in htaccess file. Be sure to check out how you redirect! (E.g. is the New site structure 100% the same, or do you need to redirect multiple pages to new pages!)

Step 2 : Submit your 301 domain change in Google WMT by adding both domains and let Google know about the change.

No index = not smart. Let Google sort things out.

Another question...after I have done the 301 should I build links to the old or new urls?

If you want to hide your backlinks then do backlinks to old URL. If you don't want to hide your backlinks then do backlinks to new URL.
