Hello all,
Has anyone heard anything about google's new plans to open it's own social network? I know they've tried before and had issues with security but have just been listening to BBC radio and their report reckons it's coming soon.

apparently they say that some top boy at google has been talking to one of the U.K.'s papers, Daily Telegraph I think...

what the fish..huh..are you serious? google going to start dominating again? come on man..it's bhw-ing time. lol..

yea, they call it Google Me

it will be an epic failure like the last two attempts of Google: wave and buzz

but go Google go, we need another social network to spam lol

There's no way that they can mess this up, I mean, monetization is already in place with adsense. They just need a minimalist theme, I can see how this can rival facebook, for starters they need to act like they give a hoot about people's privacy and not sell their information like FB does.

I blogged about this a couple of days ago, here's the link to the post with the foxnews link discussing it.

google already owns social network like orkut (indian users mostly) and i guess google wave is also a social network site never used it though

I don't understand Google a lot of the time. They have plenty of assets and perhaps less talent than raw financial influence? It seems the amount of lazily put together sites by Google is always growing. With their assets I'd be inclined to think there is no excuse for them failing to dominate a market unless their intention is merely to get a percentage of market share.

So the question I would ask is: does Google want to dominate the market or get a percentage of it? I mean even if just IM people go and spam one another, it's more money for Google.

Google is doing "everything" these days. I think it's partially a tactic on their part in that competitors can't tell if they are making a serious product or not.

luk
they got the money and they have the power to dominate anything niche u say
whether its advertising or anything
they have the power
and they are launching different social networks just becoz orkut is not successfull
it works only in india
and moreover its not safe as far i know
lot of spam and not good features as compared to facebook

and its like an insult to them
orkut is older but still not able to dominate us market
and one more big reason to worry for google is dat
they are loosing indian users too
indian users have started moving to facebook

thats y google is launching different social networks with different name and features and different platforms so dat they can dominate the social networking

They are losing ground on facebook + bing so they are forced to do the Google Me project or they will lose a lot.

Not to mention their uncanny characteristic of purchasing companies without any sound monetization business model set place. ie (Youtube,Admob) after purchasing this ad analytic company for 81 Million they did not anticipate Steve Jobs completely banning Admob from it's platform.

Mobile is the future, the smart phone war will only heat up. Big time Advertiser's are beginning to run campaigns on Mobile apps.

google bought orkut to get into the social networking scene... worked well for a while but now is slower with fb prolly taking it up from em! First time, google has got something that is really taking em head on! wave might change the scenario afaterall, but it seems to be from a different segment

i heard they had google buzz. which didn't work well. google should just buy facebook or twitter than making and failing on new ones.

I hope they make it soon and i will be among the first ones to BH-it :P More social networks, better for all of us, i think.

Google apprently was trying to have its own version of FB since orkut was going down the drain. Rumors are still in the air...but nothing solid so far.

I've also heard about Google Social network will be called Google +1 or @Google but its been delaying because of design issues as soon as design issues are resolved they will launch the network quickly
