I have a domain that is over a year old. about 25 pages of content. I am not constantly building links, but when i do I normally build slowly. Each time I build links I usually build 15 manual web 2.0's(spun, decent readable), youtube link, few pdf sites with some social network(web 2.0s) I am trying to rank a keyword. So a few days ago put up a new 500 word article on each of the web 2.0's and linked to keyword and homepage in each. All the keywords were generic.

Now the keyword has gone from 17 to 38 and is up to 31 now today. I am thinking that because I built links on web 2.0 that were already indexed I got links to my site all at once and maybe this did it. Also my traffic has dropped by 30%.

Should I keep building good links?

Most likely just a small dance. Although the G algorithm is really unpredictable at the moment. If it was a slap, you wouldn't be ranking 38th for the keyword, but most likely 380th.
Keep building links steadily and slowly and it should be ok.

I don't normally see this, but when I do, IT'S GOOGLE DANCE!

Don't panic yet. Wait for your rankings to settle, let Google process your site, let all the algo's run and then see what happens. If the anchors are generic you will be ok. Also, I would suggest for tier 1, use only human written quality articles and you'll see a BIG improvement in rankings. Aslo, try diversifying the link sources, add social bookmarks, manual, a few to each page, only top quality. Also add some social links (FB, Tw, YT, G+, shares, retweets etc). I bet you'll bounce back in the top.

    Stay thirsty my friends.

Yeah I have entered a lot of generic anchors, very few exact match. I was spinning my own content for the tier 1. And I was making it completely readable 70% unique on TBS. I used a spinning service and the content is readable but not as good as I did and not as unique but I am only using it on around 35 Tier 1 sites? But maybe that is it. I have added two articles with links from the web 2.0s tonight with that spun content service so will see how it goes

A few links? You should be talking about 10s of thousands of links. Don't be scared. Just keep the velocity up and utilise social links too as it will 'look' like you've gone viral. You'll soon rank. Don't wait and do 10 links per day for a week then 20. It's pointless. Go hard. Google is as shady as BHW so be a blackhatter and join in.

Site age doesn't really matter in this case, Google rank dances can occur when new links or new content is added.

If you suspect that it's your manual 2.0 spun article links that may harm your ranking, pick a new tactic. It doesn't look natural to have multiple links from a single domain, so add more diversity into your plan and keep building.

That drop is too insignificant to be a penalty. Most likely some competitors are just doing better + some of the links you made may have lost value or something. If you were penalized you would have dropped a whole lot more.

Agree, the algorithm is messy right now. Manually building links like this won't get you major movement though, neither up nor down. High PR links are what create movement. Odds are it's just the dance.

I don't think that spun articles work nearly as good as unique created text. I'm not saying that well spun articles can't work at all, but you are way better off (and safer from google) when using unique text even for 2.0

    That's my opinion
