Google "Site:" command

Hey guys,
I have serval new domains from february this year. I started to build content 3 weeks ago and have on each domain over 1k pages. When I go in webmaster tools, it showes me that i have over 1k pages in the index. When I start browsing Google with the "site:URL" command, on the first page it shows me "around 1,180 pages found" when I start browsing the pages it stops at page 23-24 and the pages found drops to 228-232 on every domain. Strange stuff.. What's wrong ?

Its a google thing and nothing to do with your site. While researching some things I have had this happen to me several times. Don't know why it happens but if you find out I would be curious to know why as well.

Wait so google webmaster tools initially stated you had over 1k, then it stated you had around 200-300 after doing a site: search? That's quite odd.

If your saying that Google says you have 1k pages using the site command and webmaster tools, then you went through the site: search and it stopped, sometimes they filter out results and request you to view all the pages.

Something like: "In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 487 already displayed.
If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included." may occur. Ive actually viewed them and havn't yielded much different results. Who knows.

This has happened to me, and it's just an odd thing with google that seems to not function quite as well as it should. That's my opinion at least.

I see this happen all the time in Google, even without the omitted results as mentioned by Bigwhite.

I have seen the site: tag fluctuate by +1 million indexed pages once you start browsing the results. I use it as more of a long term indicator now, tracking results and ignoring the outliers.

So what I'm wondering now is which value counts. Is it the Google Webmaster tools value, the first page site:command value or the last page site:command value ..

Maybe another useful fact: Even if Google tells you, that you have around 1800 pages indexed. For each search command it will only show you a maximum of 1000 results.
You can try it out, if you search for a term and you set the value of results to 100 a page. After 10 pages you wont get another one to have a look at.

Google automatically cuts it off

I came across the same issue. is there a way to force Scrapebox include omitted search results? or is there any google command for not ignoring omitted search results??
