actually they do better with this move ( temporary penalty for their own site ) ... now everyone speak about it ... it's damn perfect PR campaign 
... advertising baby my humble opinion it's more blackhat than anything this shit .. I mean c'mon everyone here knows I think '' google departments '' are simply independent right ? the webspam / the adsense / adwords / the youtube / the search engine / the gmail / the apis everything there is structured independently ... follow the logic :
1. everyone complain about spam since way too long - an huge fight and effort from them to bring '' best search results '' - ok noble thing !
2. everyone wanna promote hes own products - fair enuf I can say
3. the story line '' we buy some paid links '' -> leave the webspam to do their job ( those peoples have damn bills to pay too lol ! they need to earn their fkin salary ! ) bring the penalty over the property -> now ... what happens really non tech peoples average joe anyway see the '' download now chrome '' on google when they aren't have chrome installed on the computer + peoples who use IE very few keep getting the damn silly warnings + the withehat seo guys who now all of them shitting on their pants for the paid links + all those blackhat and wannabeblackhat debating the situation ...
