Google Shopping Feed + Adwords ?

Have a simple questions for the Shopping Feed guys/gals out there from a client.

Google some years ago implemented the Adwords into the shopping feed for google merchants uploading their products etc. So now you can bid on placement in the shopping tabs...

Question is this, once you have uploaded your product feed into merchant center and all of your products are approved etc... can you just simply not BID or use Adwords and still have all of your products show up on the shopping tabs for related keywords?

I understand that anyone using adwords for same products will outrank you and my products will be lower in that case but my question is if you do not BID and simply upload your products will they stil show up? or does google force you to use adwords with products and MUST make bids to have it show up in shopping?

Not sure if I understood correctly, but, as far as I know, I don't think it's possible to bid $0 and still have the product listed in google shopping. But if you bid, for example, $0.01 per click, you products will be listed and visible when there is no competition with higher bids, or the potential customers will see them when they will go to the product page in Google shopping and check all the offers.
I did this a couple of years ago and it worked well. Actually I was getting more targeted clicks because those people that go the 'extra mile' and check the product page are more interested in buying the product at that moment, compared to others that see the product on the google results pages and click on it just to check it out/ gather more information.
The only thing here is that you need a to have quite a competitive price, because once a potential customer checks the google product page, he/ she will most certainly order the products by their price.

So basically you cannot upload your feed absolutely free anymore. You will only show up unless you paying to show up in the feed now.

It used to be free until something like 2012. Since then, you have to pay for your ads to run in G Shopping, just like you do for the common Adwords ads.
