Blackhat SEO spammers force Google?s hand

Google is set to make changes to its search ranking algorithm to combat the spate of links leading to malicious web pages appearing at the top of Google?s search results, according to an inside source.

Over the past few months, cybercriminals have been using blackhat SEO techniques to manipulate search rankings. When it first began, they were marginally successful at following Google Trends to find buzzy search queries and elevating a newly created targeted webpage.

But after a short period of time, these same gangs appear to have become disturbingly effective. Last week, when researching a news story, I found the top five results all led to fake scareware pages.

Obviously if Google fails to do something about this manipulation, users will lose trust and the good ole days of Google will be over fast. A Googler speaking on condition of anonymity told WebProNews a ranking change is pending that tackles spam of this kind. Once the change goes live, users shouldn?t see it ?nearly as often.?

A report from security company PandaLabs identified over a million links targeting malicious webpages ranking for auto part searches. Google noted that many of the phrases mentioned in the report were rare. A phrase like [1989 Nissan Pickup Truck Engine Check Light Troubleshooting], for example, only appears on attack sites set up by spammers, which explains why Google brought back so many attack sites in response to it and similar queries.
Google's response seems also an admission of how difficult it is to provide fresh, timely search results while simultaneously combating spammers. Part of the appeal of Twitter to many people is the platform?s ability to provide real-time information; the live Web works remarkably well there so far because Twitter?s set up isn?t very conducive to spam (yet). At least Twitter has to some extent control over accounts.

Google, on the other hand, cannot control for content appearing on the Web at large, and historically its famous algorithm performed better than any other at weeding out spammy webpages and malicious results. Unfortunately, that was a version of the Web that was more static. The live Web presents entirely new challenges manifesting as the first major weakness the search engine has faced.

The company naturally didn?t have a comment on the recently pondered ?link velocity? ranking factor. Search engine optimization experts have identified the speed at which organic links appear as a possible important influence.
Link velocity therefore aids in explaining how blackhatters were able to manipulate search results by dropping enormous amounts of link spam into comment and discussion areas of social sites. The freshness or buzzy nature of a query also aided in this pursuit, and cybercriminals merely have to follow Google Trends and Google News to know which keywords and phrases to target.

IMHO, here are what I think:
    1. Build links slowly to make the website to look natural in Google's eye.
    2. Following Google Trends will work, that is why Google is combating them.
    3. Even if you are not no.1 in Google, you might make it to no.1 in other search engines. You will still make money anyway.
    4. Maybe we need more focus on making money outside SEO???
    5. Make the website look non-spammy for the users but actually very spammy in terms of SEO??? To fool Google of course... Creating a level of trust for the visitor of our website.

Times change, and so does G. If you want to keep up with it you have to change aswell. They'll be implementing new techniques; we'll just have to find a way to exploit them.

Although this isn't my article I have in the past written some stuff about Google and SEO... Particularly about the algo and ranking factors...

Two things have been clear to me for a while:

    1) Less and less importance is being placed on Page Rank...

    2) Type of link and linking structures are being appraised continually...

It's no coincidence that PAGE RANK and LINKS are very closely related... And these 2 areas will continue to have less and less influence on the SERPS... Especially Page Rank, which is not even worth worrying about these days...

In a broad sense these are the 3 relevant factors...

    1) Trust factor
    2) Page rank/link factor
    3) Freshness and relevance factor

Number 3 is the important one for upcoming changes, because the algo hasn't been properly taking into account , duplicate content and spam, particularly on web 2.00 sites and forums...

This has been visible for a while and can be seen in practice, for example , by using link wheels... link wheels rely heavily on freshness and relevence , linked from web 2.00 sites and some forums...

The message for the future is clear - you will need to have good relevant ORIGINAL content, and should consolidate the content with regular additional relevant posts...

I think Googs will pay more attention to the speed and number of links gained (as if they are not already) in addition to long tail queries, but will improve the ability of the algo to spot spam...including analysing the back link anchor text...

At the moment, it's quite easy to get new pages quickly ranking in SERPS, this is because google have placed some importance on freshness (more than they used to) - I think this will change in the near future....although when google makes major algo changes they usually test and target certain niches....and this change will be no different...

Google uses more than 250 algorithms to give a page rank to a page not a site. It means if you want your site to be rank high, you will have to optimize every page of your site and every page should have a lot of back links. Second thing is that google gives only 5% importance to onpage optimization and 95% to offpage optimization. So back link is not the only factor to get high page ranking.

When we talk about Page Ranking, We have to find out those factors google uses to give page ranking. As I said Google uses more than 250 algorithms to give a page ranking and we do not know all of them, But some factors are that we can be identify. Google gives ranking on the basis of popularity of a webpage. If a webpage is popular enough, Google will give higher page rank to that page. In this reply I am giving some factors google uses to give a ranking to a page. I wanted to make a new thread but I do not know how to create one. So I am giving some imformation about Page Ranking Factor of Google in this reply.

1: First of all google sees domain type. If you are using .org, .net, .mil or .info domain, you will get higher priority than .com domain.

2: How many page views are performed by the viewer on your site, is the second factor google uses to give page rank. If you have higher page view per day, you will get higher priority in the SERPs.

3: How many unique visitors you get per day is the third factor. If you get higher unique visitors per day, your page ranking will go high.

4: How long your visitors stay on your site is another important factor for google to give you higher page ranking. So create unique and informative quality content so that visitor stay for long time on your site.

5: How many one way backlinks your site have, is the highest priority important factor google sees in your webpages to give your site a high priority in SERPs and High Page Rank.

6: The quality of your backlink sites is also an important factor google sees. If you are getting .org, .net, .mil or .info domain backlink, you will get higher priority than .com domain back link.

7: The rank of your back linkers web site is the highest important factor which get jump your site to higher page rank just within 1 or 2 months. If your back linker have low PR you can not assume that you will get high PR from Low PR Back LInks.

8: How many readers you have also affects your page rank. If you have more reader, no problem what your page rank is, you will get the first page of google's organic SERPs. I have seen a page who have 0 page rank but have more than 55000 readers and the site were getting 1st page and 1st result on the SERP while the second result site on the SERP were have page rank 6. So If you have too much readers, you will get high priority to the Google SERP. It does not matters what your PR is at that time because Google gives highest priority to those pages who have highest popularity. So think about Popularity not about PR.

9: How many followers you have also affects your page rank. Higher follower higher page ranking. Because higher followeres are the signal of High Popularity to Google Algorithms and google gives priority to Popularity not to PageRank as I said in point 8.

10: How many pages you have in your site and how frequently you updates your site/blog, is also a factor google sees to give you page ranking. If you are posting too frequently, you will get higher page ranking too fastly. This is another most factor for Google Algorithm to give High Page rank. I have seen a blog which have got PR 3 in just 3 Months Because he have posted more than 100 post within 3 Monts.

11: How old your site is. If your site is old enough, you will get higher priority.
12 If you uses YouTube videos on your site, your site gets higher priority to get page rank.

These are some common factors I have personally researched on are too important to get higher page ranking. Keep these factors in mind when you create your next post. Google gives only 5% to 10% importance to On Page Optimization and 85% to 90% importance to Off Page Optimization. So keep in mind these factors to get high page rank and high position on SERPs.

As I said I don't know how to create a new thread on this Forum otherwise I would Discuss every point I pointed above in more detail with proofs and there are too many other factors I have researched I would like to show.

Google Set To Change Ranking Algorithm

I have to disagree, .info domains are crap according to google. Just test it, get a info and com domain and shoot some links that them and see what happens...infos are not good. Why do u think domain regs are selling them so cheap ? And ppl do not generally trust .info so they hit the back button very quickly.

Are u talking abt page rank or ranking in the SERPs ? If u are talking abt pure page rank, that has nothing to do with uniques and pageviews and such, it is all abt the links (quality, anchor text, amount and such).

Well they had to do something about it considering the results that appear on Page 1 these days. In good old days you would see genuine, good websites having unique and fresh content on Page 1 but these days many crappy ones dominate Page 1..

For us blackhatters it doesn't matter, no matter what changes happen to Big G algorithm we can think of ways to stay one step ahead

No one is master of google rather than the employees working at Google and Google gives priority based on the type of content, popularity of site and the requirement of user. If you want to get higher priority with free content without selling or promoting anything, you will get higher priority with .info type domains while if you are selling or promoting anything on your site or blog, Google uses other algorithms for giving priority.

I am not telling that google gives higher priority with .info domain. I want to say that the priority given by Google depends on many factors and .info or .mil domain's back links are one of them.

I am not telling that only .info domain back link will give you priority on the first page but I want to say that if .com and .info both domain's have same page rank, Google will give higher priority to .info depending on the quality of content and requirement of user. If user want to buy something, Google will give higher priority to .com domain while if user only want to know something, Google will give higher priority to .info type domain. Now If you ask that how Google knows about user who want to buy and who only want to get information, then you will have to agree that Google tries go capture user behaviour with his queries, user's geographical location and depending on so many other factors, you will get different results in different circumstances.

You may find the user behaviour depending result. Just open to browsers and open 2 different Google sites like google.com and google.co.in in them. Fire same query within them but you will get different results, because google gives results to user on the basis of user behaviour and Location.

Google is not only a search engine but also a research engine. Google knows which site is popular and what type of content user wants. So pageview count and Unique Visitors matters to google, because Google decides the quality of site with the type of user behaviour happens on the site. If many visitors comes on a site, google updates page rank of the site and tries to give first page position for some special keywords. On the other hand, If visitor does not returns on a site back, Google decides that the quality of the content is not suitable for that keyword, user have used in the search engine and google tries other keywords for that page. You may use Google Webmaster Tool to know for what queries your site is comming on first page. Google also experiments with our site to decide actual position and quality of our site and Google gives chance to every new site on first page.

For example My blog is comming on first page while user uses wrong word "google adsens" or "google ad sens" while I have not written this missspeled keyword on my blog a single time. Why I am getting first page because google gives my blog a chance so that it could decide that if any one does mistake, my site should also get chanse to come on the first page.

I can not describe everything in reply. But pageview and unique visitors both matters to google because google decides quality of page and site with both of these factors and this concept is not come up from my mind, this is the trick found by "Brad Callen" who is a successful SEO and making too much money with internet marketing. You may get ranking and first page result view concept from the site of google help. Google tries to get quality of your site, Popularity of your site and Requierement of your user. If all these match up, Google will give your site to first page.

i've been saying for the longest time that link building is blackhat, despite the protests for so called white hatters, anything you do to manipulate your own ranking in the search engine should be considered BH.

if you go on warrior forum backlinking appears to be the answer for pretty much any question that gets posted there.

just like keyword stuffing, and link farms, etc google will eventually crack down it that why people should put at least some emphasis on onsite optimization before going out and creating 1000+ links

for me i dont worry about the changes as i feel i have my bases covered, the majority of my best performing sites have minimal spammy backlinks but more quality backlinks compared to theer competitors but for me they all have more importantly well optimized/formatted/structured site layout and content.

be interesting to see what the next progression of google updates will be.... will be following this very closely, and see whats needed to exploit the next update/feature! ;)

"Sorry. There is some mistake in my first point. I wanted to say that If you get .info, .mil, .org type back links who have high page rank like 5 to 10, you will get higher priority. Means Google gives more importance to those domains with high PR." I did not wanted to say that you should have .info domain but I wanted to say you should get back link with these domains who have high Page Rank. Sorry for the miss meaning but I am strict with the point that pageview count and unique visitors matters for google to give page rank and first page of SERP for some specific keywords.

More bluff, anyone acting under anonymity shouldn't be given substance, wtf. Google cannot successfully make "major" changes to its algorithm, the internet has its limits. I actually think if they make changes it can be for the worse on their part, and get easier for us. We'll see. They only need to work on some things and polish what they have, no need to fix whats not broken. If anything changes in their algorithm it will probably only be an increase in prerequisites.

Google walks such a fine line. What a double edged sword - if they do find a way to crack down on spam sites by watching for bad links that might open a window of opportunity to hammer competitors with a negative link campaign.

Kinda like a game of 'hot potatoe'...whoever has the most/worst backlinks when the timer runs out gets the bad rankings!

Aged sites might become even more valuable. Fresh content on an aged site should be a good thing.
