I've been out of the SEO game for a while. What are major ranking factors these days? I have one website I'm trying to improve, and links don't seem to be helping. I have done some research on competitors, and inner pages of their websites are ranking for medium difficulty keywords. They don't have any backlinks to that page and not great links to the rest of the website. I'm just wondering why Google is ranking them high. The only thing they all have in common is they are 3+ years old.

I have tried some guest posts from here over the past 10 months and they have had zero benefit, I'm getting traffic but it's pretty much the same amount each day.

In my experience, backlinks are still a factor, but they’re not the only thing anymore. Google’s really leaning into stuff like content quality, user experience, and intent. So, even if competitors don’t have a ton of backlinks, their content might be more in-depth, more helpful, or have more trust. Domain age is a big one too, Google tends to favor established sites.

and since guest posts haven't worked out for you, I’d suggest you focus on improving on-page SEO, optimizing internal linking, and trying different keywords for new content (start with low-competition keywords).

Links still play a role for SERP

May be your Competitiors are using Authority PBN Links, they can easily hide PBN networks from others

For google maps

Keywords in content ex: place + keyword target

track your Competitor Perform along with that try to use keyword in content more perfectly, Do content optimization also word with high quality backlinks, take 1 or 2 Guestposts this will may help you in improving ranking!

Maybe your competitors might have better onpage structure, content, keyword usage, user experience, etc. Check what kind of articles, topics, and keywords they are ranking for to work around those to improve your website rankings. Also, just buying the guest posts won't help. It also depends on how you are you are diversifying the anchors.

Whatever it may be, Backlinks will always be a major ranking factor. Boost your site's content quality and making it easier to use, as these can matter more than backlinks, especially for older sites.

From my opinion Google trusts older domains more because they often have a more established reputation. You should probably focus on on-page optimization, Content and user experience. Also try to keep your content fresh, depth and HQ. also consider updating it often to improve ranking.

There are some excellent free tools available to audit your website effectively. These tools can analyze important aspects like backlinks, keywords, and page load times, helping you pinpoint areas for improvement. Utilizing insights from these audits can significantly enhance your content rankings and overall site performance

Hi, Focus on improving content quality, user experience, internal linking, and building topical authority, as backlinks alone are no longer enough. Older sites may benefit from established trust and better engagement metrics. thanks.

If your website is old, age can be an advantage. Google also prioritizes content quality, user experience, and page speed. Good, relevant content, technical SEO, fast page speed, and mobile compatibility are key. Don’t just focus on backlinks, ensure the site is user-friendly.

Google SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the process of optimizing your website to improve its visibility and ranking in Google search results. It involves various techniques to make your website more attractive to search engines and users, such as:

The practice of improving your website to increase its exposure and ranking in Google search results is known as Google SEO (Search Engine Optimization). It includes a number of methods to improve the usability and search engine appeal of your website, including:

Finding relevant keywords that people in your target audience are searching for is known as keyword research.
Enhancing the content, structure, and HTML code of your website to make it more search engine friendly is known as on-page SEO.
Off-page optimization: Increasing the authority of your website by creating high-quality backlinks from other websites.

Apart from my competitors having aged domains, most also use Shopify. They are selling products and only have very short descriptions with little or no other content. One doesn't make sense at all, its only showing 25 linking websites in ahrefs and most of the links are the typical spammy ones..
