Yeap, rumours have been going out that there was an update recently:

I'm already beginning to notice the effects.

Many of the keywords I'm trying to rank are now all flooded with sponsored content and Youtube videos.
One of it... The WHOLE first search results page are sponsored content and press release parasite sites - spun/rewritten content with no originality or research at all. Totally poor quality content.

This is getting ridiculous.

RIP Google. They just put the final nail in their quality search.

Edit: Many users are reporting an increase in ad costs. Well played Google.

I can see the same on my German sites. Sponsored content and loads of YT videos. Seems like Google wants to make $$$ fast rather than providing the best search results.

You need to pay to be seen above the garbage out there, basically.
It's honestly getting terrifying and WTF-kery.

I understand Google is a business organization and revenue is their priority. But there's something called "balance". If they're hurting their search quality just for profits, in time, many will just start using other search engines. In fact, duckgogo and bing have been seeing an increase in users. If this goes on, their (Google) search will be so irrelevant that everyone leaves and everyone (webmasters, adwords users, and so on) dies in the sinking ship with Google.

Remember how many crazy updates there were in 2021?

And surprise, surprise... Look at the revenue earnings for their 2021:

Yes, the pandemic is one of the reasons. But that doesn't correlate with 2020's profits since lockdowns were already happening then.

I guess buy Google stocks, huh?

March 4th led to a 10-15% increase in my impressions on Google but clicks stayed the same

The game now is to diversify your traffic sources.

Google would always throw shit at you, but I don't have a fuck to give anymore.

My search console CTR went from 3% to under 1% in the last few days, i thought it is something on my side.

After news like this, I wonder if it's worth starting a new SEO journey. :D
Sure, you can! Google updates would hit you down sometimes, and spring you some other time, that's how it works, so don't worry too much.

Definitely not just your problem lmao

There's a solution. Pick up niches where there are no ads.

It is mixed results for me... Though it is early to conclude (only two days data available), as of now, some sites dropped Average Position and some improved Average position.

Edit: I just noticed there is a good improvement of average position since first of march.

I'm using a 3rd party visitors tracker which says my traffic halved on 30th March. Am wondering if it's related to this update? Number of clicks through to Amazon seem almost unaffected, as are main KW positions. Conversion rate has been pretty bad this month so far though, which is another story.
