Doing a search on google and I had to fill in a captcha!?!!?!?!?

Nothing black hat. Simply checking our keyword ranks just like a typical Monday.

Message:

I always get captchas when I'm checking cache, removing personalization, etc... but I've never seen it from a simple search.

I get the captcha occasionally. It's when I use a lot of search operators to search.

woah! same thing happened to me.

checking the rankings ------> POOF! Captcha.. and then whenever you give the correct result.. POOF! another captcha to be solved again. WTF!

Probably doing a bunch of searches that seemed unnatural, or maybe browsing through a proxy, idk, but wouldn't be worried about it

I think they ask if you are using proxy. Because google, confirms whether human or bot.

Google has been doing this for a long time, though in the last 6 months or so they've stepped of the aggressiveness of it. It doesn't have anything to do with proxies. Basically, if you do too many queries too close together, they will eventually pop-up the captcha.

They're doing this to stop automated rank checkers (that's why most rank checkers support proxies and/or pace their queries out with random delays).

Once you solve the captcha, it shouldn't ask you again for a while. It won't have any effect on your rankings (they can't tell what site you're looking for...and even if they could, then you'd do it to your competitors as a negative SEO tactic).

In short: Solve the captchaand don't worry about it.

I really hate Google captcha, Its really hard to see and I got it wrong 50% of the times.
