Google search is getting to be borderline useless...

Being the largest advertising platform, Big G is only going to get more annoying for people who need valuable information. I get most frustrated when I am in need of a "real-life" information on a particular subject and all I get is fake authority websites pretending to give facts in order to sell stuff. It is a major problem in modern day society, going much deeper than Google, though. It's rampant capitalism.

I agree google itself is spam. The Google animals should attack Google itself.I use both Google and Bing(Good for finding torrents)

Well here's a good comparison....

For a WIDE variety of reasons, people have been saying that the NFL has been getting worse and worse for years now.

How's that working out for them?

I understand if you go elsewhere when you want to search for something. We are NOT average users though. I too have seen plenty of shitty google results for searches. But like the NFL they're not going anywhere. In fact they are just going to keep getting bigger.

This. It's getting better and better for average searches, it's the niche searches that are proving to be more troublesome. But in defence of the algorithm - there's a ton more content to filter through and assess aswell.

Coding queries serve Stackoverflow and Serverfault,
Medical queries WebMD,
Products: Amazon.

Just wait a few more years everyone! We will then just upload the internet straight into our brain ;)

I don't know WTF is wrong with your searches, but Google is by far the best for me. It basically answers my queries first time, and thats even with some poorly worded inquiries I've typed in. My Google search results keep getting better and better.

Like what Bart said... I only use DuckDuckGo, I hate when I search something up and see ads related to it.

Agree with Scritty. What drives me nuts are the news sites. They're turning into a wasp nest of ads.

You click a site and 4 ads start loading in sequence from every direction, freezes your browser, you mouse hovers like it's drunk / having a seizure, you gotta keep closing ads just to scroll and close more ads. As these ads are being loaded the content is slipping & sliding like bubbles and you feel like you're playing target practice. At which point you begin to wonder "how bad did I really wanna know w/e the fuck I was searching for?"

Then your speakers blast off at 80 decibels... you don't see a video ad.. maybe it's at the bottom right. You shut your speakers, close that just to see another ad is loading in the main content area before a video you don't wanna watch. You just wanna read a few sentences about some female terrorist. But now your mad, you click back over and over waiting for a wormhole to open and send you back to Google. Then if your dumb like I am you click another site. Thinking it won't be as bad. Another ad sequence begins you immediately hit back before anything can load. Now you realize you don't fuckn care what the terrorists names are. You don't care who they kill they probably got all their news from Google.

I've spent some time not long ago comment spamming manually on google alerts. Most of google news sites are just like that. 300-600 http calls according to pingdom.com.

Comment fields usually don't work without javascript. Enable javascript and your browser dies.

Thought I was the only one having issues with google search. They are the worst and getting worse. The results have nothing to do with what I'm searching for. I'm using them less and less. If I do use them I usually skip the first page of results to get past all the same old sites they shove in your face.

They really do want people to simply use Adwords for results/marketing. Friggen Google.

The problem is though that Google's still miles ahead of the competition for any non-English search queries. Who knows when their monopoly will end. They will have to be mindful of their role and how it is they got so big in the first place: easy of use, quick results, relevant results and most of all unobtrusive. Over monetize it and they'll lose control.

Look at what's happening to Apple after Jobs died - it's a disaster waiting to happen. Dare I say it: it's going the Microsoft of the 2005's route.

I doubt it will be google ten years from now but then again I may be wrong
I would hate for every result to become adwords it would really annoy me as a searcher and a marketer

It would be counter-productive for sure. The term 'Googling' has already been adopted by vocabularies worldwide as a verb. It's separating itself more and more from the actual brand. Something which companies hate! Like Luxaflex, Elevator, Bubble Wrap, Jet Ski - it's a brand marketeer's dream and worst nightmare all at once:

If Google missteps somewhere in the future we will 'Google' on DuckDuckGo, Bing or who-ever offers the same quality without the annoyances :)

Try longer tail medical searches (others too but medical long tails specifically) and you might not get so lucky. Nobody ever had any problems searching for "Cheerleader lyrics" or whatever.

The other day, for the first time ever, I felt hopeless. I felt like I'd been taken back to the past when your only option if you wanted to know something was to go to see a professional in real life... Because there was just NO way I was finding information online, after trying various operators etc. I eventually found relevant information but only after giving up and coming back to it later.

When i was younger I remember having to use operators once in a blue moon, now I find myself using them every other day and being bombarded with irrelevant results where the search engine tries to second guess what i really mean.

Im not a fan of the related search results it throws up at times, try's to be too clever, almost telling you what you want to search for

"Ted 2" emphasizes on this. In the movie, every search you make gets you to a "big black cock" result.
