Google Says Links Don't Matter?

I'm sure you all have heard this, but supposedly links are not a top 3 ranking factor:

I don't buy it and apologies for my naiveté, but I don't get why they'd openly spread misinformation about their ranking signals?

What are your thoughts?

Links may not be a top 3 factor but you BEST BELIEVE that it is STILL a factor.

Unless Google achieves a massive breakthrough in machine learning-based BIG DATA sorting/logic bridges, they will still need LINKS to make sense of website content and rank them accordingly.
 
Please let Google continue to say this bullshit. Do not try and retort anything they say, only do the opposite - promote these things.

The more people who don't have a clue what they should do, the higher the bar is raised and the longer your exploits will last.

I repeat - don't correct this.
 
Why do well-known sites like Outlook India, LinkedIn, or Medium often appear higher in search rankings than lesser-known or newer websites, despite these sites offering more content on similar topics? This could largely be attributed to the established authority of these sites. Building authority is significantly influenced by links. While links may not be listed among the top three ranking factors, their importance in establishing a site's credibility and quality cannot be understated.
 
I guess that’s why our clients’ rankings jump when they point our PBN links to their site.

Because they don’t matter.

It is true that semantics and on-page/technical factors gained a lot of importance but backlinks still do matter a lot.
 
Don't believe everything Google says. They want us puzzled and confused. That's how they can serve natural results to the user. Don't be fooled. Google itself started it's journey based on backlinks or votes.
 
Links are still important, but not in the same way as before. Context matters, including the anchor text and the surrounding content on the linking page.
 
Semrush made a study with different findings than Google's official statements. Content and Backlinks do matter.
 
Maybe Google is right in saying "Google: Links No Longer A Top Three Ranking Signal". But, they never said 'Links are no longer useful'.

Good links still work, and they'll work until something big comes into the game. Probably, it'll evolute to slightly deferent criteria. That's all.
 
OK... links don't matter.
But if I write a lot of BS on investopedia I will rank on page #1 but if I write something useful and detailed on a new site I will not rank.
OK... links do not matter. Google staff have been saying it for like 15 years.
 
Recently I launch a new site with no links, I am not getting good result with that site.
So, I think links Still needed to get rank on Google.
