Hello,

I am new here for I just found BlackHatWorld. Perhaps someone in here can answer my question. I own a marketing agency and I have a client that is getting a ton of fake google reviews. I 100% know they are fake but I do not know how they are getting them. I handle their website. I have another client in the same industry, in the same city, that we handle their SEO. While this client has a better SEO plan than it's competitor, they aren't reaching that #1 spot because the competitor has over 600 more positive reviews. I have never advised a client to do black hat SEO or anything unethical, however, this particular client wants to beat them at their own game. I have tried reporting them to Google and everything so at this point, we may have to play that game. How does a business get fake reviews without being penalized by Google?

this line of questioning makes sense given the situation you're in. You're facing a very common problem in local SEO: competitors inflating their visibility with fake Google reviews, while legitimate businesses fall behind because they play by the rules.

Dealing with fake reviews feels like getting punched when you’re doing the work. If it’s a targeted attack, consider a specialist or legal advice to push for removal.

I will focus on getting real reviews: remind satisfied customers to leave reviews via SMS/email or QR code, then quickly reply to all reviews, it is both safe and beneficial in the long run.

Instead of chasing fake reviews, focus on legitimate review acquisition strategies they’re safer and more sustainable.
