Google is planning to launch a registrar in the future. They are going to provide free whoisprivacy and some say it will be impossible to get these owners informations.

What are your thoughs?

My thoughs are they really think we are really dump... They abviously want to get more information regarding People who are breaking their terms. Or is this just another step to internet domination.

I can see why it would be beneficial for a whole number of reasons for them to be the only ones with whois data...

In a time and age when information is everything, if you can lockout others from what is potentially valuable data, you have an advantage. Though, I'm perhaps not cynical enough to think their motivation (at least, solely) is to get an upper hand on blackhatters - because, after all, blackhatters just won't register with them.

I will NEVER use them for any of my sites. This is a great way for them to keep track of us all.

Its Like Suicide. Easily they can Find Out and Finish our actions ,If you have PBN with google register It won't be there..

If they make first year registration $1 for every domain i'm pretty sure a lot of people will switch. Considering the amount of money they have to throw around and how bad godaddy is I don't think they will have a hard time being number one in 2-3 years.

Not sure what the benefit is over godaddy or namecheap.. but it does seem clear that google will = the internet soon.

The more info Google collects, the more powerful it becomes and we are ultimately the one empowering Google to invade our privacy.

A serpent wrapped in a birthday gift.. Google really knows how to get cheap bloggers

google basically controls icann behind the scenes... and now its offering domains

wereeither fuked or might be a big opportunity for eevrybody

I can't imagine myself using them. I think most intelligent people in the SEO business will stay away. Overall though I feel like this is yet another attempt to decloack elements of privacy from the web and force the "Google knows all" type situation.

However, I can see where from a business stand point this new offering would be a great offering as a compliment to the Google Sites product as an upsell, similar to how wordpress and tumblr have the suggested domains box that pops up during free registration.

I will use google registrar only if they give extra search engine ranking boost to google registered domains.

Another reason why I'm trying to become less dependent on their organic traffic...

As about the only people I DON'T want to get the information for my crash and burn sites is Google themselves. I might give this a miss.

For those with vindictive competitors or whatever, then this might be a good call though. Each to their own :)

Good info OP
