Google has updated their ranking systems.

You can check them out here
- https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/ranking-systems-guide

The main list had Page Experience removed. Page Experience was the one with Core Web Vitals, No interstitials et al.

If you look a little to the bottom, you will find Retired Systems.
As per Google - Retired Systems are those that are kept on the list for legacy reasons. These systems are either incorporated into other systems or made part of their core ranking system.

Earlier, retired systems had 3 more entries
  • Mobile-friendly ranking system
  • Page speed system
  • Secure sites system
These have now been totally removed.

Here's an archive.org link for you guys to compare - https://web.archive.org/web/2023030.../search/docs/appearance/ranking-systems-guide

why does this move scare me?

Thanks for the update!

I think most of them were "bait" to get people to involve more. The "SEO" community being more in touch with Google, ensures they toe the line when Google asks them to - without questioning.

CWV has always been arbitrary metrics and benchmarks - which in most cases doesn't even justify an update or a fix for a well made website. Same with "Mobile Friendliness" - the site could be the mobile friendliest site ever - but since Google has an arbitrary notion on what is considered "friendly" - you end up uglifying your website or moving/removing elements.

Let's see!

good point, I always thought the same.

But HTTPS not being a requirement anymore when SSLs are free... this sounds dubious as fuck to me. I thought google were very serious against letting malware, piracy, hacking, etc into their SE, but now they don't care anymore? Why??

I have 2 theories on this: they either can't keep up anymore with the level of hack and spam going on in their SE (even google ads have been breached, and that was one of google's most secure products), or - and this is the part that scares me (well, slightly only, but still) - they have no interest in caring about organic search anymore, because they're getting rid of it soon and replace it either with a simple chat box, or with ads and youtube vids.

These are my theories, whether they're true or not remains to be seen, but regardless of what happens, let it fall... loud and heavily :)

So, if they have removed these factors, does it mean an update will be coming soon?
yeah, it does looks like that, doesn't it?

This seems to be one of two:
1. A semantic change, because sites with poor user experience also supper from bounce rate, which is still a ranking factor.
2. Re-weighting different factors, because CWV is already included in bounce rate, so no point including it twice.

Either way it looks like there's no real change.

I just feel Google is about to launch a new and more effective way to keep track, monitor, and evaluate those metrics. Is not that they aren´t important because obviously, they are.

thankyou for posting the archive link we will look into it further

I just took 1 week to search around the internet, and fixed my Mobile page friendly problem, and now they removed it ...
good, great, awesome , nice, perfect!

makes no sense right? if user experience and engagement rate is not valued, what is valued?
backlinks only? gg

Google making shitty moves as always. No wonder why it nerfs the sites even after they follow all their guidelines.

this was in the past and was OK. Then they just started enforce us to produce tons of stupid content, which noone in fact needs and reads.
