I'm struggling to rank on the first page for a highly competitive keyword. My site has been stuck on the second page for quite a while. I've created content that I believe is more helpful and user-focused than what the top-ranking pages provide, yet my rankings remain stagnant.

Interestingly, there was a time when my site briefly moved to the first page, but it quickly dropped back down. Have you experienced a similar issue? I’d love to hear your thoughts and insights on this matter.

Thanks in advance!

Absolutely ranking just off Page 1 is a common hurdle, especially for competitive keywords. If your content is strong, the issue likely lies in off page factors like backlinks topical authority or user engagement metrics. That brief jump to Page 1 was probably Google testing your content if users didn’t engage more than with top results, it gets bumped back
Thank you for your reply. I’ve already worked on topical authority and even bought backlinks from different sources, but none of that seemed to help.

If Google really wants to test user behavior, the logical way would be to push my site to the first page and let users engage from there. How can they test my content’s performance if my site is stuck in the lower pages?

It’s frustrating to see websites with just an image and a couple of sentences outrank mine, especially when their design is not even user-friendly. It feels like the system isn’t working as it’s supposed to.

If you ranked in the top 20 without any links, then the keyword/niche is not as difficult as you're stating,
But, once again, as mentioned above, you need more authority, basically more links,

Not just "links", you need the right ones, from spam-free websites with good authority to pass the link juice,
That's where you're getting things wrong most probably, because of all of the trash sold as "high-quality",

What kind of links did you buy exactly?
How many links do the top pages/domains have? How good are they?
Can you state that your website has a better link profile than multiple of them?

Hey @serkankacan69

I’ve definitely been in that spot before. That second-page trap can be painful, especially when you feel like your content deserves better.

One thing that’s helped in my experience is strengthening internal links. When a page isn’t getting enough support from the rest of your site, it can quietly get ignored. Linking from other relevant pages that already get traffic sometimes gives it a nice little boost.

Also, it sounds strange, but sometimes content that’s too detailed or “perfect” doesn’t match what Google thinks users want. It helps to take a step back and see what’s actually ranking. If most results are short and to the point, maybe lean in that direction a bit.

And yeah, even though we all wish it didn’t matter so much, page speed and mobile experience still make a difference. A slow or awkward mobile layout can quietly hold a page back without any clear warning.

If your site popped up briefly on page one, it could have been a test run from Google. If it didn’t get enough clicks or backlinks to prove it deserved to stay, it might’ve just slipped back down.

Hope this helps even a little. Feel free to share more details if you want another pair of eyes on it.

Build some links to this page. Especially relevant ones like guest posts on websites from your own country and same niche. Same applies for niche edit. Also, social signals can be useful.

That is because your competitors has better authority than you
Keep link building and push content to the site
give some time

You should focus on these:

  1. Check for ‘ranking decay’ : Sometimes content ages poorly (even if it’s good). Refreshing stats, adding new sections, or pruning fluff can give Google a reason to re-evaluate.
  2. Look beyond content quality : Are the top-ranking pages dominating with backlinks? If so, you might need targeted outreach to close that gap. Tools like Ahrefs can show their link profiles vs. yours.
  3. User signals : If your CTR from search is low (even at #11-15), tweaking your title/meta can sometimes kickstart movement or use CTR tools..
