Google rank drop suddenly.

Hi, I have a website that was 2nd for my main keywords, and two week ago, it suddenly drops to the 5th position. The one thing I did is that I made a little more backlinks than usual, but nothing really hard, we're talking about 10-20 backlinks per day during one week.

But in that period, I think I have been marked as spam by Askimet, I don't really know if it's in that period, because before that week, I didn't really post on wordpress blog. Can this be related ?

If I'm penalized, I surprised that it's only by a drop of 3 place, does it seems logical ? Moreover, my other web pages on the same domain hasn't move in the SERP position... What do you think I should do ? Do I have just to wait to get back my 2nd place???

Keep building backlinks steadily and you will get back up there. A 3 position drop isn't really a slap if that's what your wondering. How old is your site?
 
Did you change anything else, eg add a new post that pushed a more keyword rich post off the home page?

Yes for sure, for what I have been reading here, a 3 position drop is not a big deal... But since the beginning I have slowly but surely only increase little by little my position... Now that I'm back to position 5 (for one week now) there's no change.. no google dance...

So I don't really understand what's going on. I read people that were thrown 20 pages back, with a very erratic position... This kind of drop, I read a lot here, but I never read something like what I go through now (but I'm very far of have read all the valuable informations that are here).

I didn't make any big change. Only a small tweak on my homepage in order to have a more reasonnable density for my keywords (about 5 now, much higher before).

And the competitors are far from having an optimized homepage for this keyword.
 
Keep building back links at the rate that got you to your highest rankings. Once they are indexed you should be back to normal. The Google dance is just part of SEO, not necessarily something you did differently.

You could test it by putting it back to how it was before.

Of course it could also be that the competitor sites are also busy link building.
 
If you are worried about a three position move, you are going to find this business stressful as all hell! Rankings are always moving a bit here and there. If it drops from 2 to 22, then it is time to get aggro! It'll probably pop back up before long.
 
I would not worry about it. If you site drops off the first page then I would start looking into it. As google is rolling out new process for there search engine and how its pulling data you will see a change in ranking from day to day.

Google has been know to roll out a new platform for a day or two and then take it back off line and then bring it back. as they are doing these types of changes yes your site will move around.

I'm not that worried for a 3 position drop, it's just that from what I read here, the drop what usually more severe.

And what surprises me, it's that it has never known a drop, it was quite quiet...

But I will wait and see. I hope comimg back here with good news in one or two weeks ;p

I just saw in my webmaster tools, that my homepage was duplicate with / and /index.php

I have corrected this, and I will see if it changes anything...
