Hi, quick question.

Does anyone know if it is difficult to outrank Google Places? For example, if you search "Hawaii Hotels", the first thing that comes up is Places for hotels near Hawaii. Is it possible to beat that and become ranked above it?

Just wondering, cause I don't want to be totally wasting my time if it is near impossible to beat it.

Thanks!

Beating it could be difficult. I've seen the places above, in between, below, and mixed in to the regular organic search. The position seems to move on its own.

Go for right below it if that's an option.

wondering this too. Would be nice if there was a way.

Im actually trying to do this as we speak! My website is directly below places and I am trying to get to the top, I have been doing link pyramids up until this point but I am trying to use high PR links to get me over the line ill let you no how it goes.

Thanks for the response! I guess I'll hold off on building that site at the moment.

That's Google's Universal Search.

The position does move sometimes (based on the relevance of the sites in Google Places targeting the keyword), but I would not be surprised if Google eventually puts it on the top.

Either way, it would be hard to beat it with organic SEO, but you could get yourself a Google Places listing...:)

I actually trying to do this too.. started yday, just building good quality backlinks on an EMD, and just crossing my fingers hoping for the best.
