I am a noob and want to get some information on google places SEO. I am doing this for a plumbing company that needs to be rank one in the city they are located. Any information or help would be great. You can PM me and we can talk over Skype. I am capable of doing the work I just need the information on how to do it. *edit* - Skype name = chad.anthony.lozano , I cant PM because I don't have 15 posts. ><

What I do know:

1. Places ranks you based on good and bad reviews.
2. Rank based on how well your place is constructed (pictures, videos and fully detailed places page.
3. Location is also a factor.
4. It takes reviews from other sites like yelp and dexknows and puts them in the "more reviews" column.

They are currently at the letter "H" which is 8th in their local search.

One of the best breakdowns I have found for Google places is on David Mihm's site, I'd toss you a link, but still being a new member to the forums no links for me! A quick Google search of his name will bring you to his site and then just go to the "Local Search Ranking Factors" page for a ton of info.

You can normally find this information updated a time or two a year and it's based on a huge amount of feedback from industry experts. If you're also working at your organic ranking for the website, the good news is that Google just recently announced at the end of February that they are putting more emphasis on your organic ranking when determining your placement on the map.

I hope this helps, maps can be a bit of a tricky beast at times.

I have recieved plenty of great info on this forum so I thougght I could help you out on this... Pay it forward a little.

This is what I did and it worked although it didn't change over night it took awhile.

Create citations before you create your GP listing. Lots of citations. Here is what needs to be the exact same in every citation:
1. Business Name
2. Address
3. Phone number
4. Website
5. Images
6. Videos

Obviously if it doesn't have the place to put it then dont worry about it. If you create a citation in one place as "your business llc" then in another place "your busines LLC" Big G probably wont give you credit for the citation and could even cause a double GP listing. Everything needs to be EXACTLY the same (above info).

Here is a citation list that I use:
· Yelp
· Super Pages
· Insider Pages
YouTube
· Judy’s Book
· Kudzu
· Angie’s List
· Shop City
· ibegin
· Merchant Circle
· Manta
· HotFrog
· ShopCity
· Dexknows
· Truelocal.com
· Yellow Pages
· Yellow Book
· Yellow Bot
· Magic Yellow
· Info USA
· Zoominfo.com

On top of those if you can find some local places to leave a citation you want those as well. Like your local Chamber of commerce, BBB etc.

Keep a list of all the citations you created and ping them to make sure they get indexed. Once a good portion of your citations are indexed (minimum 50%) create your listing on GP.

Now go to GP and see if your info is already there if 50% + citations are indexed its a good chance it will be. Search for your company info. If it is claim it, if it isn't create one.

In your listing you need to use the same exact info you used in your citations to include descriptions etc..

In your citation don't keyword stuff and use your real address. Yes having city center will help you get it ranked higher quicker but it most likely wont last after a few people report it as not being there. In the categories this is real important dont create ones to use as keywords. It should explain what your business is not does!!!

In the more details section put a couple of your citations in them. Example. First box= see our ratings at Kudzu then in the second box you put your URL to your Kudzu citation.

The biggest thing for your GP listing is to fill out every box dont leave anything empty. If it requires you to create some stuff then do it (videos, pictures, coupons etc).

Next is to get reviews on your citations places. I highly recommend using real ones from customers. If that's not an option then buy them but be careful because buying them from the wrong person can get you removed from results.

Note: Don't use a pattern to get your reviews try and be sporadic.

After you have a good list of citations with a good amount of reviews you need to build backlinks to your citations.

Use 1-3 keywords on your citations and build backlinks. It doesn't need that many so I wouldn't go crazy.

That should get you where you need to be... Although this process if done right does take some time. If you have any questions about this let me know.

Templbi is right, and looks like he know whats going on. and in the right order.

thought I was the only one, lol.
hit me up for review packages if needed..
gotta an ace in my pocket!

anyway.
usually what i dob is,
build, input content, Do seo, get the reviews,
and do one or two pr releases and now putting three images on pinterest
for the authorty backlink along with 5 face book mentions. just to start.
I dont do you tube, but focus on authority links for the first two weeks and try to get at least 60 mixed backlinks
so it looks natural and spaced out.

Can you elaborate on authority backlinks. Also what type of backlinks do you think have the greatest impact? Also you backlink to the places page or the domain name of the company or even other citations. Didnt know if you could blast the other citations and then it would act as a buffer? Any advise guys?
