Hi,
Has anyone ever seen a legit site above a google places page? Ok as I was writing this I found one. If you google lawyer maryland you will find a site > places pages > sites.

Can anyone explain to me if it is known what factors google uses to choose to put a site above the places?

Thanks

I was literally just thinking the same thing. Hopefully someone has an answer out there

This is quite an old change in local search results. this has been happening since february and I wonder people have started noticing it now. It seems that there were some experimental changes in Google search results.

Google changed everything recently so Google Places is now done through Google+. Such a pain to revitalise their failing social network...

Just good ole' SEO.

The best thing to do is use a different URL for your places listing, i.e. subdomain or subpage so you get 2 rankings on Page 1.

Seen it a few times when places pages aren't very popular and the regular site has some decent SEO. Not to hard to do. but happens mostly in areas that arent highly populated

I have a few websites ranking over the local search results. It's just a thing about authority, I also thinks Google favour my webiste as I have Adsense on it an the other are just regular legit website without Adsense.
