Google Places -- Question on Citations

Hello guys!

I've been in the SEO game for a while, but I must admit that I am a newbie when it comes to Google Places. I've read a bit on it and it doesn't seem too difficult to understand. However, I have one silly question.

Everything I've read says that you need to post a citation on as much local directory websites as you can -- and to always use the same Name/Adress/Phone information. Now I've been wondering, would it just work if the Name/Adress/Phone information were posted on as many article directories as possible?

name , address and phone number in article help to build citations, but the best citation the review sites like : yelp, insiderpages, citysearch....

I do a lot of GP... yes, articles with the full citation will help, there is no question about it. I've done it and several people have written about its effectiveness.

That being said, there is nothing like full citations from authority directories that Google already trusts for maximum effectiveness.

Here is a pretty full list... of course you don't need anywhere near all of these, depending on niche, but it a pretty darn good list and the links to the sites make it pretty easy.

You don't need 500 million citations. Just the top 10-20 sites would do. Also google is not counting the views from those sites anymore, only their own.

I thought about that, but surely it can't be that easy, right? After all, there is a first one and seventh one in Google Places.

Anyway, I'm going to try to rank in Google Places soon with a test local business...

How much SEO work you need to do also depends on how thick the competition is.
