If I just have one location in NY should I choose (yes) this business serves people at their location and pick something like 10000 mile radius?

would this help my google places show up in local results all around in other states?

Interesting question here. Aside from SEO related motivations, you will want to make your selection based on what your business actually does. For example if you have a store front and you don't visit customers where they are to perform your service or sell product, then you would choose the first option. If you travel to customer locations to perform your service (like a plumber or electrician would) then you would choose the second option.

If you do both, then choose the second option.

I would venture a guess that if you choose a radius, you would show up in search results for users in that radius because your business would be relevant.

thanks for the info. Let me tell you my story so you understand more.

Actually I dont have a store front I am an online only company. But I tricked google places into sending me a confirmation number by using this method

and changing the name of my address to XXX second street instead of XXX 2nd street.

Since we are an online only shop I want to show up in every local place possible. So my question is, by changing my radius to 10000 miles , will this help me show up locally all over?

Just a fyi.. I edited my option to 100 miles radius.

That's the same questions i was asking myself.
Let say i am in Miami in the area with zip 33125. And i am searching for "Miami plumbers". And there are 3 businesses which've spent same amount on citiations, seo, etc...
[a] has their serving area defined as zip codes, one of which is 33125
has serving area selected as 20 miles radius with center in 33125
[c] has serving area selected as 100 miles radius with center in 33125

Do they perform the same?

It depends of these three key factors
