There are a few issues laid out here:
1) Listings that aren't "updating" indicate a couple of possible problems - duplicate listings being the most common and then multiple verified owners being rare, but possible.
Dupe listings are a huge pain and it's best to contact Google right away. Just because you don't see 2 listings in the maps search results, doesn't mean there isn't a dupe.
It could also be that you're simply not giving it enough time. Many updates aren't visible for a good 4-8 weeks, sometimes more. That's the general update cycle when submitting changes through the dash and also to see ranking changes. Because of the way G pulls in data for the listings, they don't update the way organic SERPs do. If you're perpetually submitting changes that require a new PIN, you'll probably never see changes live. It's also quite possible that you're so damaging your listing, it will take up to a year to get it to finally settle with one set of data.
There are a couple other possibilities:
a) If your issue isn't seeing videos, then it would be good for you to know that videos have been disabled for some time.
b) If your issue isn't seeing images, then you should try logging into the account and going to the front end of the listing. Next, click the "Photos" tab and then click the blue button that says "upload photos." Uploading images that way seems to get them to show up within a couple of days. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out how to force Google to choose a specific one for the larger image to the left of the banner area. =\ It was always nice being able to choose the best for that slot.
2) Listings that are "stuck" in "review" could be suffering from a few issues:
a) Your listing has some violations and your listing is either truly under review and will soon be deleted, or it's already deleted (dashboard rarely reflects this reality)
b) Your listing is actually live but your dashboard still incorrectly displays the "review" message. This is actually VERY common.
It's important to know that being in review is nothing unusual these days. At the time of this writing, there is a big data backlog and just about every listing is being stuck in review immediately upon verification.
To check if your listing truly is under review / deleted or live, simply go to maps.google.com and search for the business phone number. Often you'll see that a listing is alive and well but your dash doesn't reflect this. Nearly 100% of the time, the listing won't have their images show up in these cases, either. In that case, simply follow my tips above for getting the photos to display.
Now if you want to avoid review status, I have found that it sometimes helps if the listing you're verifying has a minimal amount of data in it. This means, NAP and one category. I used to create listings with all info added to it; I now create listings with minimal info and I seem to skip review status when doing this. Not always, but more often than not.
Hopefully this is helpful.
