You need Reviews and lots of Backlinks 
There are two types of Ranking: Page Rank and SERP ranking. Both of them depends on the link building factor. yeah, if you want to be rank 1 in google , you need thousand of backlinks, there a lot of free program i guess you can use to create your own backlink..

Hey bro I'm getting involved in this & & it seems citations are key factors here. Citations are reviews & having info all congruent on a bunch of the business listing services online.

You will need to get Local citations and some reviews will help too.
I dont do anything without Geos very important.

You don't need them to be from Google Reviews but City Search is good too and not as strict as Yelp etc. Just see where comp is getting most reviews from and use them as well.
